After the temporal beginning of the 21st century lets talk about what possibility can be considered his geopolitical ( and possibly historical in futur chronicles) : The september 11 attentats.

Where were you ?

Me: I was in Secondary 4-ish. During french, the interphone began announcing the directorate's sympathys for what was simply referred as the "events in New York". As the day gone by, rumours of "airplanes falling down", "Third World War" and "We all gonna die" stirred and peace marches (read:excuses to skip class) was improvised. Luckily, i had history this day and the teacher take the responsability to derogate to the programme and dedicate the first half of the course to the history of the modern Israel state ( the only clear background to the event then) and the then inexistent necessary factors leading to a world conflict. It was only in the evening i get to know what the event was and shamefull and psychotic it may sound, i get a adrenaline rush of it ( we are history dork or we are not).

The word pagan came from paganus , who mean peasant . Its was a way to significate than christianism was the religion of the elite and paganism the one of the savage worker class.

''Trickster shows us how we trick OURSELVES. Her rampant curiosity backfires, but, then, something NEW is discovered (though usually not what She expected)! This is where creativity comes from—experiment, do something different, maybe even something forbidden, and voila! A breakthrough occurs! Ha! Ha! We are released! The world is created anew! Do something backwards, break your own traditions, the barrier breaks; destroy the world as you know it, let the new in.''

Had a written exam at university (Electromagnetic fields, less than 30 per cent of the students each term pass).
Felt exhausted afterwards, went straight home, tuned on the TV.
Saw the smoking skyscrapers, thought, no...not Spielberg today, switched to another channel, same picture, switched again, same picture.
It seemed that all German TV stations had interrupted their programme.
Then i realised. Just sat there and watched.

I heard it on the radio and thought is was another poor taste radio station prank .  Then I saw it on the morning news and nearly couldn't believe what I saw.

I was at my cubicle at the Mechanical Engineering Dept. I was a graduate student/researcher still pending for PhD candidacy, so I spent many hours in there, and I found out over the web as I always had a laptop computer wired to the wideband Ethernet.  We couldn't believe it.

Teaching middle school English (grammar). That was one heck of a struggle getting anything taught after the news filtered in.

I had a terrible cold. Sick at home, watching tv. I saw the first tower in flames and figured it was a new movie trailer. It was the time of movies like "indipendence day" and "Men in Black". Going to another channel I thought:"hmm, they really want to sell this movie." A channel further it hits me, this is real!

Woke up hung-over in my house which I shared with a friend at the time, stumbled down the stairs, flicked on the TV and reached for the painkillers. A few days before I had been messing about with some old analogue satellite TV receivers and improvised dishes, and had a couple of various satellite feeds setup to watch various stuff, including some news channels and a couple of live transmission feeds that seemed to be for some random news channel or organisation - as in the stuff they send to other broadcasters before slapping a news channel logo on it.

Flicking around the various feeds I saw some shaky footage of a burning building, once the camera was fixed in place, zoomed out and aimed properly I could see it was a big building. Didn't think much of it until I swapped to the propper news channels, after about 15 minutes the first "Breaking news" headlines appear and I see the same building on all the news channels. It was at least 10 minutes before I realised what was happening and that this was something big. I sent an SMS txt message to my mate's mobile (cell phone), and he thought it was a joke and was waiting for a punchline - until he checked the internet, then him and his whole office were watching the online streams of whatever news channels at the time. They ended up borrowing the TV from the conference room to watch the news reports.

I spent the rest of the day swapping between the live outside broadcast feeds and the news channels, though I mainly stuck to CNN. I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing.  I saw some shocking things on the outside broadcast feed that didn't make it to the TV broadcast - and for good reason!....  Sometimes you really wish you could 'unsee' certain things!  Lips sealed

I had been up to about 3am the night before; in the morning the phone rang and I ignored it and went back to sleep. Then it rang again. And again. I answered a phone and a friend told me that the World Trade Center was destroyed, and I should turn on the TV. I asked him what channel, and he said every channel. I asked him it it was the same idiots that car bombed the tower before and tried to get the deposit back on the van; he said that he didn't know but probably. I turned on the TV and there was nothing else on TV for the next few days.

I had just started working in the flower beds just outside the flower shop at the cemetery where I was working at the time when one of the workers came out and said that there were "airplanes crashing into buildings in New York".

I was watching something on TV over at my parents' house when my sister came running in, saying that a small aircraft had just crashed into a building. I put the news on and immediately realised from the silhouette that it was not a small aircraft. I was just pointing out to her that it was actually an airliner and that this was a huge incident as they showed it flying in again when I realised that there was already smoke billowing from one tower and it took me a second to catch on that this footage wasn't a replay.

I remember how quiet everything seemed after that; the streets, the shops, the bus...even in the mess, we were obviously talking about it a lot, but the conversations were sort of hushed, like at a funeral. We were used to terrorism as an occupational hazard, of course, but this was bigger than anything we'd seen before and I think we all knew a war was in the offing.

I was at work washing tons of horseradish to be made into sauce, went for a tea break and at first thought it was some new disaster film being advertised on TV. As it became clear it wasn't another 'Bruce Willis film' the comments made were basically one word ones that I won't repeat here but most of you can guess them.

On a lunch break in the middle of a double Slovene class. Classmate rushes into the classroom with a copy of the newspaper and yells "TERRORIST ATTACK IN AMERICA!!!! D:". Saw the images of the towers later that evening. Don't think I'll ever forget them.

I was on the road, driving in to the day job at the komputer-maschine corp. I heard about it on the car radio, and when I reached work I found folks milling about like lost sheep. I grabbed my manager and our director and got them to focus by telling them
"We have CUSTOMERS in those towers and they will need emergency recovery support;we need to re-organize to provide that ASAP!".
We ran off to organize that, and found several core teams were already setting up a "War Room" to do just that. It worked out well, we were able to provide "sales" and "Lab" servers to customers who now had nothing, and assist with numerous emergency offsite failovers.

I was most impressed when we discovered that one of our Xerox Contract employees in the 2nd building was instrumental in safely herding several hundred of our employees (and many others ) safely down-the-stairs-and-out to the street, then a few blocks further (they all wanted to stand there and stare!).

I was in the UK driving along the A12 from Lowestoft, heading towards Great Yarmouth. I switched on the car radio and heard two comedian DJs (Chris Moyles and Comedy Dave) being absolutely serious and sombre about the tragedy. Neither of them were being their normal jovial comical selves; it was then that I realised that something very serious was afoot. As soon as I got home, I switched on the television to see the disaster unfold live. I was dumbstruck that any human being could be so evil as to commit such a heinous act.

Not too far from Maxwell Grantly I was sitting by the river at Woodbridge, although I can't remember the sequence of events that had taken me there. I heard a couple of boatyard workers talking about something in quite sombre voices, but what I heard did not make any sense. I drove home still none the wiser and then when I got in, the TV news feed made the awfulness all too clear.
