Small bubble compass. IE Marble's or similar.
Vintage or old is good.

Not sure about the quality, but cheap versions of bubble compasses have shown up in a local dollar store.  Of course they didn't look as good as a brass cased antique.

I've been searching for compasses under an inch (water and balanced) for a long time.  I'm sure you would have found the cheap Chinese bubble compasses:

and it looks like one of these was used in your photo but with an added brass bevel/case.

These are even smaller but not bubble:

I wish someone would make nice solid brass small compasses (under an inch) with no modern fonts or graphics plastered all over them.
