The word pagan came from paganus , who mean peasant . Its was a way to significate than christianism was the religion of the elite and paganism the one of the savage worker class.
''Trickster shows us how we trick OURSELVES. Her rampant curiosity backfires, but, then, something NEW is discovered (though usually not what She expected)! This is where creativity comes from—experiment, do something different, maybe even something forbidden, and voila! A breakthrough occurs! Ha! Ha! We are released! The world is created anew! Do something backwards, break your own traditions, the barrier breaks; destroy the world as you know it, let the new in.'' Extract of the Dreamflesh article ''Path of The Sacred Clown''

anybody remember this show ?:
For me, it was the first Peter Pan adaptation who make me understand the complexe symbolic of the original play, especially where come to Hook being more than a standard villain.

Whilst I don't have anything fun to show and prove it, I've recently started running a sci-fi horror campaign for a few friends using gurps. Thematically, there's limited FTL travel and a fair amount of spacey stuff - but the general flavour of everything is definitely early jet-age - we're talking Dan Dare with a lot more grit in the mix. In amusing anarchronism terms there's a lot to go on - the fact that they're travelling in space ships with nuclear-fusion powered thermal rocket engines through hypergates - but still using things that look like ham radios? A 22nd century space ship with an actual ship's bridge? The crew listening to jazz records and playing cards with robots?

One thing that always amused me was the original Star Trek series. They could travel faster than light, but the most advanced form of communication they had was a radio transceiver.

I should think than non-steampunk anachronisms is a bit out of place on a a steampunk board.
However I can definately see how steampunk can be applied to pasts other than victorian times. From greek steam powered wonders created by Heron of alexandria, to the Deisel punk subset of steampunk, with satalites of atom punk and post apocolyptic steampunk.
