Originally I found the name Kit in the Young Wizards series by Diane Duane, and since then, I've used it in various forms. The last name I suspect I took from Dr. Who, from Rose Tyler, because the two names together sounded really cool, and kinda steampunky.

Man, I've used this name for 7 years. Wow. It really didn't seem like that long until I just counted in on my fingers! When I was in 7th grade, I thought "Jonny" sounded better than "Jonathan" and my two best friends called me that occasionally. I always had a fascination with the phoenix from mythology, and when I became a christian, I was reborn. So, I became a phoenix in a sense. I added the Y because I thought it was cool when I was 13. (I'm 20 now, going on 21) I really should think up a Victorian name....Jonathan might be better actually

"Isabel Cane" in fact came from a vampire name generator... and she's evolved into a delightfully foul-mouthed wench who commands a flying winged bicycle, dreaming of piracy... But mostly dear Izzy winds up more tipsy than a drunkard in a beer factory.

I have a reputation amongst my friends for always going with piratical themes in games (and sometimes real life A while back a friend called me a 'corsair' during a warhammer 40k (yes I know) tournament and it kinda stuck

Well, I've always loved the name Allegra, but my friend insisted I made it different or she'd call me "Allegra Lunesta Viagra Ibuprofin" for the rest of my life. o_o Also, I've German ancestry, so Eredschtadt came into being after thinking with my best friend, who's to blame for making me fall in love with steampunk. And so, Alegrah Eredschtadt, a wily, sailor-mouthed, rebellious, (I like to think) quite sexy, and independent grave-robber was born. ;] Grave-robber because I always loved the intrigue, and dare I say, romance, of a back alley woman who cares for herself by her own hands. I dare say you ought be careful of her, though, as she'll treat you to bullet or blade quicker than she'll say hello. ;]

I created the name Duscus when I was in eighth grade as a character for a friend's short story. Since then he's gone through many, many changes, but most notably he is a demon in a Victorian-esque underworld who is sort of a knowledge addict and spends his time collecting and studying arcane books. Of course, this was all well before I got into steampunk, but given the state of the world he lives in, I'm sure he very well could be.

I am sure he has a good reason for the name. Perhaps he likes to think he is a hero who likes to get himself into the nooks and crannies where others will not go. Anyway, it looks like a very clean term, if you were in the 19th century and speaking Latin or Greek. These days, may be not. To quote the OED: [L. smegma, a. Gr. a detergent, soap, or unguent, f. : cf. SMECTIC a.]
A sebaceous secretion, esp. that found under the prepuce.
Phillips (ed. Kersey), Bailey, etc., give ‘Smegma, soap, or any thing that scours; a wash-ball’, but there is no evidence that the word was ever current in English in these senses.
1819 Pantologia X, Smegma,..soap; any concrete substance resembling it, as the hardened matter often found, in the morning, on the lachrymal caruncle. 1876 DUHRING Dis. Skin 108 In the newly-born infant, the smegma serves a valuable physiological function. 1899 tr. Jaksch's Clin. Diagnosis viii. (ed. 4) 407 The microbe of smegma readily loses its colour under the action of that substance.
And in case you didn't know, the lachrymal caruncle is to do with the eye. As for the prepuce..... that is lower down in men. Further research would be needed to see the context in which it really was used in those OED etymological quotes. I now refer you to Red Dwarf, which is probably how most people learnt anything about this term. Sorontar

It's French for mechanism or clockwork. I was on this forum a few years ago (2008-ish? maybe?) under the name Von Effenger. Decided that wasn't very me (partly because I want to name my future-dog that).

"Ruix Brennan" Ruix - is my nickname in the everyday. I'm not sure how it came to be.. Brennan - I took up because I hate being bonded in the form of a name to the unpleasant and greedy characters which make up my family. They're nothing like me and so in a sense I hold my persona name more dear than just my "steampunk side." If I could legaly go by RUIX BRENNAN, I would in a heartbeat:P

You DO know what Smegma is, don't you??
Smegma; an amalgamated word used in vulcanology being the combination of smelly and magma = smegma, a substance resulting from lava cooling slowly in a moist enviroment causing it to retain a musky amonia like odor resulting from trapped volcanic gasses. used in a sentence; "that rather bulbous volcano seems to have quite a bit of smegma around the rim"

Xander.2 was the name of a cyborg time traveler from 2,461,015 that I created for a short story a while back. I then enlarged it to my name, Alexander, and instead of the .2, a ² was added instead.
I've used it on other forums and such, and I guess this guy will get a short story of his own soon enough.

Mr P Dreadful is more than a name....he's a title. I'm a ghost and crime walk organizer and have been telling the rather nasty truth about the Victorians in Sheffield for a while now (5 years). He's the character I become when I walk through the past and many people know me as it now.
