The name "Augur" is actually taken from a character out of one of my favourite sc-fi television shows, Earth: Final Conflict. Played by Richard Chevolleau, the character "Marcus 'Augur' Deveraux" is more than just a computer geek or hacker. I would consider the character of Augur in E:FC to be a true technomage. I am really into technomages, the whole concept of weilding technology in such a way that people around you almost think you are performing magic. That was how I used to feel when I first started using my laser virtual keyboard. I consider myself a technomage, not just a nerd or a geek.

However, that is not very steampunky, is it? I still use the name Augur for my steampunk character, but I developed a reason why he is known by this name. It is a mononym, just as the pop-star names Madonna and Pink. So out of my natural creativity tumbled a backstory for my character. I cannot explain how it happened. I have Asperger's Syndrome, so that may have something to do with it. The ideas just rolled out in waves and I wrote them down, adding to it daily. I haven't finished yet, either. I'm still adding ideas regularly to my character's back story.

I guess my personal background as a child playing D&D games and constantly creating characters helps. Also, I am a strong proponent of the open-source community, and I am into collaborative writing, so I encourage others to contribute ideas to my back story.

I think having Asperger's really helps me to easily draw from a wide range of sources for inspiration for my writing. I guess Aspies just see the world a little differently to most people.

A Technomage is Arcanepunk my dear Augur, it is not steampunk, but very close, where the magic and technology are parallel, I am working on such writings myself atm. Also It is interesting how you developed all this and more, as for what you revealed about your identity, the Asperger's Syndrome, it does remind me of a certain fact in my life that I yet would not like to be revealed. I trust it to be untrue with me hence I will speak none of it on a public debate. Still I know these here mighty fine people are creme de la creme of internet societies and am sure I would be treated seriously and with none of the daftness I have encountered in other places. In any case about persona, it is good to know about your writing projects as I am very interested in colaborative work, not only of my own personal writings. It is good to see you here too. Smiley Hope you enjoy the stay as much as I do. And I also believe in Open Source! Cheesy Had a concept for quite a while for my own venture in that.

I should enjoy reading your writings, Christophe. I have very definite cyberpunk leanings aside from my steampunk/retrofuturism interest, and I am quite confident with juggling my "virtual schizophrenia".  Wink

No problems, I've only very recently been diagnosed, and I am very happy to finally have a name for my particular form of weirdness.

... I am very interested in colaborative work, not only of my own personal writings.
Yes, I did receive your PM, by the way, but as a new member here, I alas have not the permission to reply to PMs yet. As I say above though, I should be most interested to read your writings.

Ah I see now about the replies, I have to admit that I, myself took a year break from the forum for the means of university study, hence my low repute on this here board of fine colleagues. I guess you could say I was doing my 'field studies' on an expedition via the ministry of culture and on par with the foreign affairs ministry involvement of cultural attache sir Francis Milton Gladsby De Roche.  But enough mild improvisations Wink I am glad to hear that you are interested, cause I wasn't sure if I would spark any in such a highly commendable authority figure as yourself my dear Augur, with no means of silliness in my tone, well maybe a sprinkle of autoirony. Well I will gladly show my writings, also, my blog is available on my profile tab along with my tweeter. By the way, I did watch Earth: Final Conflict series at home in the past and it was an interesting concept also for me a bit too much aetherical or ethereal at the given time. It was also nice to learn of your persona name an interesting read.

Upon thinking a bit more about this, and after a discussion with our dear friend Christophe Cocoricau, I have decided upon the name Amelia Featherstone (I have appropriately updated my signature to reflect that).

Miss Amelia Featherstone; pleased to make your acquaintance! *curtsies* I am inquisitive by nature, and therefore my areas of interest tends toward the more creative and exploratory ventures.

Amara (am-arr-rah) was a nickname given to me by a group of junior high friends eons ago and it stuck. I've very fond of the name.

Deegan (dee-gahn) I lovingly 'borrowed' from my long time favorite webcomic, Dominic Deegan.

With their powers combined, I am the Dread Pirate Amara Deegan!

I actually go by my real first name, and my favorite last name...

I'm not really quite sure how I decided to use the name 'Van-Wyke', to be honest.

...I used to go by 'Murdoc Van-Wyke',but that some people a little confused about my gender.   Undecided

I chose my persona name for several reasons.

"Gordon Elias Weatherbee"

1) Gordon is my real name, but I like it and it has a good sound to it.

2) Elias is Walt Disney's middle name.

3) Weatherbee... conjurs images of a small insect being buffeted by a storm. Suddenly here. Suddenly there. Working ceaselessly against superior energetic forces.  I think its kind of poetic.  Especially when I follow it with the self-proclaimed title:

"Free Thinker, Tinker, and Time Travel Machine Repair Specialist"

Greetings!

My name is Sylvester Aloysius Swayback, maker of things.

Sylvester was my grandfathers name.  He was a restorer of antique furniture and a model railroader extraordinaire.  I feel it is from him that I received my love of building things.

Aloysius is from Aloysius Pendergast of the Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child books.

Swayback is what I call my car (they all have names don't they?)  It's a 2002 BMW Z3 Coupe.  With it's long hood and passenger compartment towards the rear, it has a bit of a swayback look to it.  At least I think so.

Well I started on the Introduction page so it only seems fitting to come here next.

My Persona comes in three parts. Title, First name, Last name

I chose to be a Professor because I am a fickle being. I wanted a title that lended itself to being a position with some power but didnt feel Captain or any of the more royal Titles, Duke, Earl, ect..., fit what I had in mind. I also like to get my hands dirty but didnt feel that being a gunner or mechanic would work either. Finally I noticed that while there are lots of Steampunk Pirates or Imperial Anti-Pirate groups out there, there aren't many mad scientists So a Prof. I became.

Michael is my pen Name. It is what I use in video games and Forums.

And Finally I chose Masters as my persona's Last name as it is a shortened form of my Real Middle Name, McMaster.

Well that and it sounds cool and I like persona names that have the same Letter for first and last names. Example. Peter Parker

Inigo Jameson-Gatling

Inigo is from the architect Inigo Jones
Jameson is from the whiskey and the failed military action in southern Afrika in1895 and 1896
Gatling is from Doctor Richard J. Gatling the inventor of a mechanical machine gun.

When put together the three words have a certain flow.

Redwrench comes from two placees, red for my hair color, and the wrench being one of my favorite tools to hit people with!

I don`t have an actual persona name (yet? Wink ), but the username, citizen_erased, is from one of my favourite Muse songs. As a big Muse fan, and as a bit of a conspiracy theorist myself, it seemed appropriate. I like to think that with a name like that I`m rebelling against the government and organizations, but I somehow have this sneaking suspicion I`m the only one who sees it like that.

As for a persona.. I`m only just starting to consider whether or not I`ll get a persona. If I ever do, I`ll come back here.

while I`m here anyway:

gabriel is my real name....well part of my real name. its orgins is hebrew and depaning on the spelling is how one ideterfir gender since short and long version of my is unsexed.

birthday buddy! *high five*     I do actually get two days of presents, but it also means I don`t get presents the rest of the year. Plus my family has a tendency to give me crappier gifts for two days straight, instead of just a few of the ones I actually wanted. "But two days of presents is so expensive!" . Thanks. :/

I am not sure that I have a separate persona other than when I played at clubs in my rock band, then I just dressed grunge under of all things the nickname I got stuck with of Voodoo Dan.  For most of college, I was (and still am) basically a 19th century dandy trapped in the 21st century.  I have always been very rebellious and when I realized everyone was wearing black t-shirts and jeans, I decided to wear what nobody else was wearing.  Then when Fedoras came into fashion, one day out of protest, I wore an all black suit and a top hat.  Danny is my given name, which I like mainly because I enjoy pulling my ID anytime somebody is certain my name is actually Daniel.  Oakes is my middle name, which I just think is cool and simple.  Danny Oakes is what I exhibit under and what most people knew me in college as.  My Art History professor was so scared when he saw that an award he was giving me for Undergraduate Achievement in the Visual Arts was engraved "Danny Oakes" and I had to explain to him that as it is the name I use with my art, it was quite appropriate.

Actually, my real name is a pretty cool long Dutch name, but I'm not sure I feel comfortable saying it on an international forum. Not that I don't trust you all, I'm just kind of paranoid about that.

For a persona name, I almost always go with Winston Sharp, a combination of two names from the book Leviathan. Winston is the name of both Prime Minister Churchill and Dr. Barlow's Messenger bird, and Sharp is the last name of one of the main characters.

Some of the other names I've come up with are Fastidious Perfectus Oliphant, Rufus Tiberius Hogwilde, and Dr. von Optikon (for my father).

Mine is based on Alice's Adventure Underground, the original manuscript of Alice in Wonderland that Lewis Carroll gave Alice Liddell for her birthday. In the original manuscript, there was no Duchess, instead there was the Marchioness of Mock Turtles (who was actually another persona of The Queen of Hearts, as the white rabbit explains), and so I always use that as my internet persona Smiley

Well, my persona is a bit of a rouge.  he wouldnt have a fancy name, and the alternate world of steampunk would still have things like carpenters and blacksmiths. so my name is an unexciting "J. Tanner"

i am the guy conning with the shell-game on street corners, playing cards in taverns or bring my own backgammon board to gentleman's clubs.

Jarrett is the name of a high fantasy roleplay character of mine, it's the name i use on most forums I haunt.

She might not be the best to represent me on a Steampunk forum (though she did end up with a clockwork arm so maybe it does work!) but she's my crazy alter ego!

"Lady Jarrett" might have been better for here, but Jarrett is definately not a lady Tongue
