Shameless plug for the Southeastern Teen Shakespeare Company's production of "The Taming of the Shrew" opening June 6 at the Pensacola Cultural Center (aka the building Pensacola Little Theatre is in). The director has decided to go with a steampunk theme. Most of the characters will be standard Victorian, but Kate (the titular shrew) and Petruchio (the "tamer") will be steampunked out. Petruchio will be presented as an adventurer. Kate has some of the gear and the interest in science and exploring, so while Shakespeare's text doesn't explain why they end up getting along so well together, the director hopes those visuals will help the audience understand how they go from bickering to happily-ever-after.

My wife is involved with SETSCO as a board member, so she recruited me to help make the props. They're all in various stages of development right now. You can find in-progress photos in various places, including http://www.rockethub.com/projects/42033-the-steaming-of-the-shrew (where they're part of a fundraising campaign and https://www.facebook.com/SetsCo (the company's Facebook page).

Whether you're interested in the play or not, if you're in the area on June 13 (rain date June 14), the company is holding an open costume party at Al Fresco, about a block from the theatre, after that night's performance.

Just wanted to pass along a link to more photos of props I'm building for "The Taming of the Shrew." The Time Travelling Device is complete. Two of the three letterboxes have been delivered to the set. The binders (handcuffs) are done, but no photos yet. I'm still finishing up the gear mailbox and the Mauser. The show opens June 6 at Pensacola Little Theatre. Photo album: https://www.flickr.com/photos/auriette/sets/72157643532353324/

The gear-driven letterbox for "The Taming of the Shrew" is complete. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=653227718090267

It's mostly for looks, but it does "work."
