My Dears,
Imagine, you are a Victorian and you can be photographed only once in your life, for posterity. Some were unlucky. . . .
Allow me to introduce you to one lady's hilarious hair board:

Take my camel, dear, said my aunt Camellia, climbing down from that animal on her return from high mass. The camel, a white Arabian Dhalur (single hump) from the famous herd of the Ruola tribe, had been a parting present, its saddle-bags stuffed with low-carat [sic] gold and flashy orient gems, from a rich desert tycoon. . . .

 Dear Miss Wingnut

I am unable to  meet your challenge for a more flamboyant bouffant -

but can you imagine the fine facial  hair opportunities this couple's children will have  with a double dash of  whisker  genes

My Dear Fairy Penguin,
Indeed! It is no surprise that the pseudo-science of eugenics was popular in this era.

 REVENGE

Imagine the weight of this  and the effort in keeping out the tangles.

Beat this  !!:
The Lady with the Mane
Who had growing from the center of her back, between the shoulders, a veritable mane of long black hair, which doubtless proceeded from a form of Naevus Pilosus, Circa 1896

Last year some impolite 'yoofs' walked past me and once past 'physical attack range' commented on my beard as follows

"Did you see those two dead squirrels on that guys face?"

I must say I felt quite proud

And to prove it's still possible, there was an art installation film a few years ago based on them...no wigs involved :-)

Hans Steininger, sporting the record breaking beard that would ultimately prove his undoing. Apparently he tripped over it and broke his neck (of course it could just be an urban myth, but looking at it that doesn't seem wholly infeasible).

@ hurricane Annie: a few years ago there was a very popular country, western sing whose name I think was Crystal Gayle (sp?) who had floor length hair.

@ Camellia Wingnut: ah yes, a very early artist's concept of Princess Leia.

Sadly, in more recent years (as I understand it) Ms. Gayle was forced to cut her hair on the orders of her chiropractor.

Awww... She was adorable! But most girls are so... While I don't have a overly fantastic or comical hair style, please consider this meager offering to the conversation.
