There is am 1896 film made by Thomas Edison that is often cited as the first kiss on film. That citation is wrong.

Eadweard Muybridge, famous for making the first motion picture which starred a galloping horse, did a series of human motion studies using nude models. Included was a kiss, between two nude female models; to have filmed a nude male/female couple would have violated the mores of the times, but I guess lesbianism was O.K.

Click this link for the film and more details:

sometimes ... a kiss is just a kiss....

And sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

The female-female choice probably has more to do with contemporary attitudes towards pornographic material which often excluded male nudity (not unlike modern censorship).

Oh dear.  So not erotic.  It is like the difference between a medical illustration and a softly lit art photograph.  Or a stark white lavatory and a sunken harem pool steaming with rose petals.  Or being naked and shivering or being nude.  Reminds me of a cross between the showers at school sports classes and the sort of kiss exchanged by polite acquaintances at a bus station.  Very entertaining!

It is rather more science than art, although it probably skirted the edges of erotica, if only becase even all your other references are probably fetishes for somebody out thee on the aetherweb.

I clicked on the link, but purely out of a scholarly interest in cinema history.

I meant to say that my impression of the moving picture was of cold naked inhibited lady-to- cold naked inhibited lady formal-salutation action, rather than 'hot naked, etc.'  The cold part being the memory of my school, where there was a dismally cold swimming pool and open showers filled with the sort of shivering naked bodies you see in medieval Doom paintings or Hieronymus Bosch pictures in fluorescent light.  And the bus station part was being reminded of similarly non-sensual exchanges, of the sort of kiss ladies exchange when they part at the bus stop after a visit.  Fully clothed, of course, but those ladies seemed to have expressions matching cloth coats and headscarves . . . string bags . . .
