I quite like the idea of a steam-electric hybrid version of the Mallard. Seems very retro sci-fi if you ask me.. Grin

Completely unpractical, but very cool..

Technically they're electric-steam, Heilmann produced three steam-electric locomotives in the 1890s for the Chemins de Fer de l'Ouest.

Steam turbine-electric locomotives were tried in the first half of the twentieth century.
