Gentlefolk, if I may - we all love Steampunk and the principles which go with it. Sometimes an event will attract many, sometimes it will attract few. I have been at more than one event in the past where there was just myself and one other person turned up, and yes, it can be discouraging, but these things happen and it's often simply down to bad luck rather than any lack of appreciation on the part of those for whom it was organised. Please, there is no need to get vexed about such things.  And I would also ask that unfortunate events of the past be left in the past; and any contretemps occurring elsewhere be dealt with elsewhere rather than here.

Mr Van Diesel, I regret I had never heard of you before, nor did I realise that you were to provide entertainment at Cogs; but due to exhaustion I could not have attended in any case. I look forward to making your acquaintance in person some day, and I shall certainly visit Cogs as soon as both time and finances permit, as will, I suspect, others.

Now, may we  resume this thread with its accustomed bonhomie and good-natured banter, please?

I seem to recall having been that other person. Though these days, the shift rota and suchlike tends to get in my way.

On that note, I must offer my apologes to the group as I will be unable to attend 23rd as I'm on the late shift, so won't even be leaving work till 9pm. I should be fine for the next Wednesday meetup though.

Hi folks, I went along on saturday too;
the music (dj); it was great to hear 'OUR' music at a public venue,
the band, Red Ruff were: yet another twist in a steampunk theme and I have been listening to them since.
I caught up with some people I had not seen in a while,
made some new steampunk friends,
chatted to lots of none steampunks,
the refreshments, tea and cider, were much cheaper than I expected,
the venue had to be seen to be appreciated,
I got lots of pictures (more of those later)
and got the last bus to my neck of the woods.
 In all a good evening.

I will be going again, over the weekend this week just to support the venue, anyone care to join me...

Glad you enjoyed it & will be going again.  Good to see your support, as venues with no support are the ones that collapse (in more ways than one)

I'm not sure about that one. 17th is also the day Cassandra Claire is doing a book signing in Birmingham! I'm so torn....

We hope to be along to that - maybe a few last minute purchases before Whiby.

It has now been announced that the SVR will be hosting not only Flying Scotsman but also Tornado at their Autumn Gala.  What's better than 'copping' one East Coast Mainline racer?  Why 'copping' two of course!

sorry to break it to you but this is the local headlines.....

The Severn Valley Railway website and booking system crashed this morning due to the volume of people trying to buy tickets to see the Flying Scotsman.

I didn't know tickets were available yet!- it isn't for another 5 months...

Write out 500 times, "I must pay more attention to the Severn Valley website..."

~Addendum~

Tickets for Flying Scotsman and Tornado in September are DIFFERENT to those offered for normal travel on the line (ie- turning up on the day and buying a 'freedom of the line' pass WILL NOT allow you to travel on trains hauled by Flying Scotsman or Tornado).

Pre-booked tickets are £30 each.

They aren't on the website right now (result of the site crashing?) but there is a telephone number to book tickets.

The specific train I am looking at is the 11.10 departure from Kidderminster (hauled by Tornado) and the balancing working back from Bridgenorth (Flying Scotsman).  I am about to call up and see if I can book tickets.

I shall book four tickets- shall confirm later if I have been successful.

~Later~

Nope, think the booking office is closed for the night.  I shall try again tomorrow (assuming the website booking function doesn't come back online this evening).

Persons intending to travel by open carriage should select a seat with their backs to the engine, by which means they will avoid the ashes emitted therefrom, that in travelling generally, but particularly through the tunnels, prove a great annoyance; the carriage farthest from the engine will in consequence be found the most desirable.

Any thoughts on when to meet up (presumably in the Flea Market)?

I'll pop that one on the diary.
