I loved Jake VonSlatt's trilobyte, which he made by etching brass on both sides.  The original is on the Steampunk Workshop site at http://steampunkworkshop.com/electro-mach.shtml

I decided to make a few things with watch gears, and made a trilobite that owes its inspiration to Mr. VonSlatt's work.

It's made from bronze sculpey clay, an adventurine cabuchon, and bits of old watches.  Normally I sew steampunk coats and hats, but I'm on a bit of a jewelry and adornment kick at the moment.

Science!!!

     Dear Hellga,

Welcome to the Forum.  That's a nice trilobite piece.  Is it going to be a brooch or a pendant?

That's really nice.

But mainly I'd like to know where you got all those cogs from  Shocked

Coolness.  As a Girl Genius reader, I'm also clockwork trilobite fan.  On my props list, it's the third item for me to create.  [After Goggles and Rayguns 101.]

While I can't condone the veneration of my Sworn Nemesis, it is a very fine piece indeed.  Combining real brass with faux-brass/bronze is a tall proposal, but you managed to pull it off sublimely!

I am a guy that's not too into jewelry (except my expensive watch fetish) but I think this is pretty cool. The detail in the sculpy isn't too sharp but it still looks cool. I am weird, if the detail isn't really sharp it just looks like a killer Chinese toy to me.

That looks pretty spiffy, but like another poster. . . where'd you get the watches to get gears from?

Ms. Fahrmann:  Thank you!  Glad to be here.  It's going to be a brooch, I think it would look nice pinned into some froth of lace at the neck.

xAngelx:  I got the cogs at www.mantofev.com, they have quite a bit of nice, but VERY SMALL things.  Those are watch cogs, so think tiny jewelry rather than broad adornment.  But then, adorning borads is always fun...(ducking)

Cmmr. Obadiah: Thank you!  Practice, practice, classes...or trade skills you don't have for skills you do!

Zircher:  I just read the series in 2 days, all that had to go somewhere!

Jake of All Trades: Thank you so much!  I ADORED your Torch of St. Dismus - that was a masterwork.  I'm glad you like my trinket.  I think the brass-notbrass work because it looks like the interior-exterior of the piece.  Trying to combine those and pass it off as integral might've stunk.  I'll make more in those mediums, 'cause I have them.

Cmsr. Swoosh:  Thanks!  Sculpy is a really tough medium.  It's difficult to go back in and polish the fiddly bits because it stays soft.  I'd much rather work in porcelain or metal, but hey, sculpey's cheap!  I am going to have a scarab cast in metal - I'm seeing a watch battery and a tiny movement to make the wings lift slightly and vibrate at random intervals, which is definately not a plastic clay device.

Thanks again all, glad to hear your words!
