anyone else on here going to Supanova Brisbane?

I'll probably show up on the Saturday, depending on a few factors outside of my control.

CSU Gold Coast is what exactly? I've never heard of it. I thought we just had Griffith and Bond.

I live on the Gold Coast. Doesn't allow much for the dressing up.

I'm considering going to Supanova Brisbane. Money is tight, so I'm not sure at this stage. If I go, it'd probably be both days, too. Smiley And I want to see the preview for Earthsea.
My apologies, I may have meant Brisbane. I have friends in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast who are studying Business and IT at Charles Sturt University, wheresoever the nearest such place may be.

Brisbane here...

While statistically irrelevant, it's seemingly apparent that Brisbane is the steamiest city in Australia. Huzzah

I hear Newcastle's gone to pot.

Glad to hear that you're okay, Hex ^__^

Yea, similar thing happened to us: we lost power on fridee, got it back for about three hours on saturday night, then nothing until late monday morning.

As for Newcastle... gosh! If that cannot be classed as a cyclone, I do not wish to know what can.

At least it should relax the water restricitons for you guys!

*Grumbles about getting half the average annual rainfall in one day but none of that being in the catchment area*

*Laughs* Wow, thanks for the images, punkbound, and it is good to find you safe and well.

Maybe you can settle an argument my brothers were having: we heard someone suggesting that the ship could be dragged, on wheels along a channel cut for the purpose, across the beach and to the river behind then out that way rather than across the reef. The question was: surely there are buildings, or something of the sort, betwixt the beach and the river?

We're bracing ourselves for more over the next few days... although I believe that it is meant to be concentrated further south this time. Hopefully you guys won't be hit so hard this time!

Hex: if you still have those photos, they'd be interesting to see, too.

Having been to Newcastle (I'm from the UK and it was a work related trip) I hope everyone's ok... fantastic pics of the ship, however that must have been a tad hairy weatherwise to have done that.  Unfortunately due to the pressures I had I never really got to appreciate any of Oz when I was there...  Sad

Btb, Hex, I think I asked about central coast antique shops in a thread of yours -- just before losing power. I don't believe either of us got back to it, so I ask again: where do you go antique-seeking up your way? Most places in Sydney are very expensive, and most places in the Blue Mountains are tacky, (although excellent for books!)

There is a place in Wyong called Eternity Antiques. I've only been there once. They had mostly furniture there which is of little interest to me atm.
There's also and a 2nd hand shop I've been to which is quite can have some rather ingesting things (as you saw in my finds thread) as well as 2 opp shops which I haven't been to yet (salvo's and vinnies)
most of these are within walking distance of Wyong station.

I also just did a search for other antique stores which I should check out Antique Shops by Location These seem to be all within about 40mins drive of me

Some flood pics taken on the Sunday.

its possible Flynn. Its mainly just the breakwall in the way and thats not all that big.. think the real problem would be keeping the ship upright and moving at the same time.. not to mention rebirthing it on the other side... but i guess its possible if the tugs cant sort it out Smiley

Hey. I'm from inner-west Sydney too.

Does anyone know good sources for men's victorian-era costumes around here?

Gallery Serpentine has a shop on Enmore Road with both men's and ladies' outfits.

Also the Glebe Markets on a Saturday morning are good value.

We could go and see this
The curious economist: William Stanley Jevons in Sydney
Which includes
Quote
One of the most exciting artefacts to be included in the exhibition will be Jevons’ original logic machine or 'Logic Piano'. On loan from the Museum of the History of Science, Oxford, this will be a rare opportunity for Australian audiences to view this extraordinary 19th century proto-computer.

not to mention the other exhibitions that are on atm

That sir is a grand idea - the Jevons exhibition would be fascinating! Some of the Powerhouse's permanent exhibitions sound great too:

A meeting of Sydney Steampunkers is a capital suggestion, and the Powerhouse Museum sounds like an ideal place. Count me in.

Hmm, anyone in Brisbane know of some decent second hand/junk shops, or any other places where one might scrounge up some useful bits and pieces?

Not sure myself, maybe your fellows in Brisbane can help? Some of them are hanging out in this thread ... meet them in person this Sunday for high tea, our join us on 11 August for an evening of cigars.
