I can be at central at about 9:10 (provided the trains are on time) though I need to be back up on the coast by about 5:30-6ish which means I'll need to leave about 3:15 depending on where we are.

Personally i think central is probably the best place to meet up, I'll be coming down from the coast as well and really dislike navigating my way around Sydney.

In other news Woo! my copy of The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello just arrived from Madman, awesome animation and curiously enough the Captain is voiced by the brother of a guy my dad works with.

EVERYONE! ... or, everyone coming to the Sydney meet on July 12... What time suits people for getting into town?
I can be at central at about 9:10 (provided the trains are on time) though I need to be back up on the coast by about 5:30-6ish which means I'll need to leave about 3:15 depending on where we are.

So, those of us who attending what's the plan? What do we want to do?

Personally i think central is probably the best place to meet up, I'll be coming down from the coast as well and really dislike navigating my way around Sydney.

In the main atrium-thing for the station, then?

And shall we say we'll be there between 9.00 and 9.30, to allow for late trains, buses, etc?

From there, shall we go and peruse the collections in the maritime museum, or would you prefer the powerhouse?

After that, weather permitting, I propose we head to Hyde Park for lunch, though it is a little bit of a trek.

Shopping by-trips should occur before and/or after lunch, hey?

I am assuming we are all comfortable with walking all over the city... is this true? If not, we can certainly concentrate our activities into a smaller area.

Hello Jaq,

That's fine, I interrupted a conversation. I like the idea of mopeds, regardless of the kind of motor driving them (though a steam one would be awesome)... steaming one up sounds like a wonderful idea.

My employer recently acquired an electric tread-ly http://www.electricbicycle.com.au/cruiser_elite.html - It is rather daggy looking, but the design looks modable (no, my employer would frown on that idea!). It's also rather expensive, at around $2,500 with a large-ish lithium-ion battery. It rides ok at up to 25kph (max speed the electric motor can achieve) but after that becomes a bit unstable in my opinion, what with peddling madly and all.  Cheesy

My conclusion was that it would be a lot of fun to have something like this and steam it up, but I'll commute via motorcycle for a while yet.

Those electric bicycles ain't cheap, that's for sure. And at the moment the petrol ones work out cheaper than the leccy over a period of time. If you take replacement battery costs into account.

Cheers: Jaq.

I've posted briefly there, will upload pics soon.

I agree regarding the cost of the electric bike!

I'm not sure if I'm heading up on the Friday evening or Saturday morning yet. Central is easy for me either way.

I have to get out to Chatswood sometime during shopping hours (9-4), so I'll try and get that done first thing, then meet you all at Central (unlikely come to think about it) or at a museum or in Hyde park...

Well that comes back to the question of what is a Steampunk band really.  I'm in a band with another steampunk and we play terribly anachronistic music (folkpunk) and there's other stuff like that, but if you're after an Abney Park then I think you're out of luck.

Werrl, the museums are free admission for most sections, the bus fare for a student is $2.80 each way, and then lunch is whatever you can afford/are willing to pay.

I... actually might have an issue now, though... I work as a casual, and I often don't get my rosters until the very last minute... I've mentioned that I want the 12th off, but I was on last saturday, which means the manager might forget and put me on this saturday... heheh, I'll let you all know about that when I find out more.

Hooray! now all our tourism for Adelaide shall read
Adelaide: not the worst place you could be.
I dont care all that much, I was living in Queensland until just over a year ago.  Of course, I discovered steampunk after moving, so did not get a chance to meet the large number of S-Punks in good old BrisVegas. but such is life.

Dante Aetherson, welcome! Always good to have someone else from Melbourne, I really want to have a meet up sometime soon!

honeycat: While Adelaide has arguably the most vile water to be had in this here land, the city is quite pleasant, with lots of old buildings, and this really cool antiques shop which I spent a lot of money in.. But what's with everything shutting at 4.30 pm?

Not everything shuts at 4:30. most at 5:30. However, I believe I know the antiques store you are speaking of, near the city, and they have the most bizarre opening and shutting times. I often visit there to oggle their goods, as there is no way I can afford any of it. Plus, it is only the city water that tastes bad, most people are on tank water, which is tasty.

Obviously not the one on Grote Street then which is the one I was thinking of. Probably because it has the rest of Treloar's books....  Smiley

It's odd. OK, I started growing up in Adelaide and moved to Canberra when still a laddie, but I can still happily drink the tap water in Adelaide. And I'm used to Canberra water which is about the purest in the land, straight off the Snowies... I must just be strange!
