Wow. I think I'm going to have to see what there is to see underneath the Spit Bridge. It's a fair way from home, but if it turns out to be that snazzy, it will be well worth the trip.
Also,
Dear Sydney-and-surrounds, Let's do something.

Oh, there's a couple of us down there. Fifi (she mainly lurks here, but is lovely in real life) and Stefan Freestate. I live in Townsville. Apart from the TDSME fun park and a few displays at shows nothing really steamy ever seems to happen around here.
We had a railway workshop in Flinders street but it hasn't operated for 20 years, and is soon to be levelled (as soon as the developers organise the asbestos disposal experts.) I was expecting the old signal box to be gone by now but it's still there.
There is Victoria bridge but don't go there after dark.
Nah, Victoria Bridge is fine so long as you're not a fool about it. I'm an ex-Townsville boy, have to admit I got straight out to Bris as soon as I could. Speaking of which... This is the engine that turned it: It really is quite a cool bridge, I was so glad when they took the top off it. And putting the workings out on display was a very good move by the council.

The Pyrmont bridge (even though it is a swing bridge) is also interesting. Though i don't know how much of it's workings are showing (
) Also,

This could be interesting Heritage Express

This could be interesting Heritage Express*Laughs* It's right there: Steam Days Out. I nominate either the Caves Express or the Thrilmere Flyer -- the former because I like the mountains ^^;;; and the latter because it is soonest, and the destination has a museum. I wonder whether there are any school students around, to see if we could scrape together a family ticket? It's a little cheaper ($215 rather than $240).

Am I the only one present in Perth? Maybe, but I'm from Perth. I lived my first 8 years there. I then lived for 16 years in Tasmania (including 3 in Hobart, the rest just out of Launceston), then 7 years in Melbourne. I've visited Queensland two or three times, New South Wales about a half dozen times, and driven to Adelaide from Melbourne too many times to remember. Love Adelaide, probably my favourite city apart from Perth (and I would still prefer to live in Adelaide than Perth). Never been to the Northern Territory, unfortunately.

Hello there! New member ahoy. Add my name to the already impressive amount of Queenslander-dwellers I gather there is quite a decent Steampunk following in QLD? I was starting to feel a wee bit lonely... however, I'm not in Brisbane (but quite close to), so that may be part of the issue. Anyway, always a pleasure to find like-minded persons so close to home! Hello there! where might you reside? there's quite a few of us in Brisbane and we usually get together every now and then. So You'll have to come along to some outings. . . when we get round to organizing them. . .

I think the Heritage Express is a sterling idea. I like the sound of the Suburban Steam Safari, and the price is not too high (for me, at least). Who else is free on March 1?

Not terribly far from Brisbane, but far enough to prevent me from making my way there very often, what with schooling and the like. However, if there are any major events on I would endeavour to make my way there if circumstances permit!

Ah Toowoomba, I guess the invite to coffee I just posted in the other thread won't be worth the travel then

Well, considering the large amount of schoolwork I have recently been assigned, I shall very disappointedly have to decline. Do keep me posted on happenings in Brisbane, though!
I don't know of any other Toowoomba-ite Steampunks... do you? Or does anyone?

*sigh* Ah school, it is of the devil. I don't think I know any other steamy Toowoomba-ites, but then there's all sorts of lurkers around here. I was talking to Tinkering Jack last night, and we're definitely getting a non-18+ do together sometime soon, possibly involving pancakes.

*sigh* Ah school, it is of the devil. I agree wholeheartedly. My love of learning and books is most decidedly spoiled by having to spend five days a week with a group of lunk-headed ninnies. I cannot wait to finally reach university! Pancakes, you say? Sounds most intriguing...

I would gladly join in on any Sydney based shenanigans, although I don't quite have steamy attire. (I do have a pocketwatch though.)

Pocketwatch: check Trip to Glebe markets for fab waistcoat from Jap importer ... $25 Dodgy golf hat from any shopping mall ... $15 Collared shirt, jeans, old Doc Martins from the wardrobe ... PRESTO instant Steampunk!

If any Melbourne steampunks would like to see some real steam in action, they may be interested in this event. http://www.steamrail.com.au/srv_openweekend2008.htmlThe current plans appear to be to have 5 locos in steam, along with some diseasels of which we won't speak. I won't be recognisable to anyone, I suspect I'll just blend in with all the other train spotters drooling slightly.

I don't have the details on hand, but my fiance's dad goes at least once a year and runs his own steam engine (squee!)

Would it be this one? http://home.vicnet.net.au/~mstec/rallyfrm.htm'Squee!' indeed. My only steam engines are of a size which can be put away on a bookshelf afterwards. Someday when the children have grown I will learn enough to handle a real one.
