"Oh, Una! You love me?" That was quite a thunderclap of a revelation for Fetch. He had 'come up from the vats' with the constant humiliation ofbeing reminded by every one, man and woman, that he was basixcally amonster, no matte rhow civilly or low-key he tried to act. There had been women who allowed him near, of course, but mainly as a reward from his Tong employers for services rendered in an especially, as they saw it, excellent manner; no love was involved. For someone other than Master Otto (he had not yet remembered his mother in more than one of his flashbacks) to say that they loved him was a an entirely new thing -- and for that person to be the focus of his affection was an earth-shaking occurrence.

"Una, I love you as well. No One has ever said that they loved me, before. I am overwhelmed."

After a moment, he said, "I have frequently found that although books are helpful to a point, they seldom help with emotional happenings. 'It is usually best to follow one's heart,' as Mistress Seiyuu of my Tong once said. From the opposite end of the dojo, I might add."

"Shall we go? Time marches forward." He said, extending his hand.
-------------------
"I assume you want us to map the areas we explore?" Luke said without missing a beat. Will glared at his brother. "You just can't pass up a chance to map something, can you? And now you've got a chance to go back under the streets again."

Una took his hand and kissed him because it was the only thing she could think of to do. "Lets go paint the town red. I am not entirety sure what that means but Lucretia said that was what we would be doing and it sort of sounds fun."

Fetch returned the kiss, and then shifted the two of them to the steps outside of the steps to the building that housed Cloud Nine; he could shift to a place he'd never been before, but that could get ... complicated, Especially if he was taking someone else along, so he chose the Valeted driveway instead, which he had been to many times as a bodyguard for the Tong bosses. "Here we are. Shall we go in?"

The bouncer was on of the more meaty types with an extra thick protection for the small brain he did have.  "Ids please." He said to Una.  Una had no idea how to respond. She had no such thing. Una looked at Fetch and wondered if she should pull the gun hostler from her bag and show it to the bouncer.

Fetch showed his Citizen's and Justice's I.D. cards to the bouncer. "I'm Justice Fetch YinYing," he said.

A surname was a necessity for registration in the Justice Force; the Chinese word for 'Shadow' had been suggested by his original Justice mentor, a sort of play on words referring to the fact of his tendency to not always appear to be totally present, more of a 'shadowman,' as the slang went. He didn't usually use it, and most of the justices and harness bulls, as well as the rest of the population who were aware of him simply called him 'Fetch.' That word was an Old-World slang term that usually referred to a resurrected spirit in an artificially-animated or re-animated body (hence his tendency to euphemistically call himself a 'golem'), and was what Master Otto and his lab people had taken to calling him since his emergence from the vats and the protracted ordeal of his revivification, since he was in fact almost literally that in more ways than not.

None of which would have made any difference, let alone sense, to the meat-minded human tank in front of them, of course.

"The I.D doesn't say so because I've only recently found out, but my true surname is 'LeCroix,' "He added. "This is the Girl Who Came Back To Life, Miss Una Malone. Show them your Ident card, Una. The new one that says 'Malone,' " He said, with slight emphasis for tank-boy's benefit, but realizing that it might not make a difference. He suddenly realized that she might not have it yet. "She's with me," he added, "We're meeting Dee LeCroix here for dinner. Is there a problem?"

Dee held his woman close on his arm as they walked down street, having already called Dees personal doctor to patch up Marshall. A quick brushing off had removed most of the dirt from his clothes amd he was to jacked on laz to care about  The rest. " lets go my love"

The bouncer looked at Una.  she was sort of like the girl in the picture but she didnt have a card. he was stimied.  Lucrea saw the problem and knew how to fix it. "Hello Tommy."
The bouncer lit up like it was Christmas day.  "Miss Lucretia." he said happly

"these people are with me honey.  dont worry you won't get in trouble."

he smiled like it was a burden off his over taxed mind.  "Come on in then."

"Tell your mama i said hello." she smiled back at the others and opened the door. "shall we?"

Dee took time to shake Tommy's hand as he walked through, and tipped him $20, he was a friend of Marshalls, and was well known by the Le Croix staff. though how deep his history with Lucretia went flickered in the back of his mind then vanished just as quickly as it had arrived
She was all his now and thats all that mattered. Dee signaled a host who escorted them to a private balcony overlooking the main floor usually reserved for couples, while his underlings scattered to find two extra chairs for Fetch and the girl. "Get me a tumbler on the rocks, 30 years old, single malt and a good full body classic cigar" he turned and looked at lucretia, laying his hand over hers and asking "anything for you m'lady?"

Dee wrinkled his nose wondering how she could drink the fierce liquor. It wasn't that he believed the smear campaign that the French wine companies were spending countless money on in an effort to keep absinthe from driving them out of business, it was just that he'd never been partial to it. One of his few admirable traits, Andrew had been a gifted connesuer of fine liquor and cigars, a talent which he'd passed to his son. Because of that, Dee had been raised on the smoky bouquets and rich palates of some of the finest scotches in the world before he left home.

He looked up from staring out over the restaurant in time to catch his secretary's smile which he smartly returned, grinning lecherously as he squeezed her hand gently

Lucretia loved the little ceremony of loucheing the liquor it was calming and made the drink special. Her spoon was a gift from a client all done in a shell form with her name engraved on the handle.

Una watched her with curiosity she had no idea what either of them was drinking.  She had read about spirits but that was in the frame of taxation regulations and not what they tasted like or did other then cause drunk and disorderlyies. "Is that ok to drink?" Una asked smelling the stuff in Lucretia's cup.

"Yes it is." Every time she thought she had caught Una up with the rest of the world something like this popped up.

"Thank you for your help, miss Lucretia," Fetch said as they entered the restaurant. "I've only been here once before, and that was as Boss Huang's driver and outside guard, before I became a justice."

Later, he was just as bewildered by the fare as Una, though for somewhat different reasons. "The last time I saw a pig done up that way, the five Tonglords and us bodyguards ended up pullling steel and hacking each other and the restaurant apart." He chuckled at the memory,

"You're with a Justice and a major magnate of the City, Una, you can drink whatever you want, and nobody can even say "boo" about it." Fetch said, not without a bit of the starry-eyedness he felt when he was around Una trickling into his voice. "Besides, you're lovely. 'Lovely girls and cats do whatever they will,' as they say in Kowloon Street." He sipped his bourbon, relishing the flavor, but he felt a craving for a different kind of drink. "I wonder, do they have Sake and know how to serve it?"

Una had no idea what half these drinks were.  "Crème de cacao please."  She had discovered that chocolate was a good thing.  After eating only bland food for so long she had started to experiment and she would try anything once.  "And I would like the duck please."  She wasn't sure what a duck looked like but she imagined it would be tasty.  "Is sake food or drink?'

Fetch thougt for a moment, and then answered, "Some would have it that it is both." He thought again, and began, "It's best served warmed, rather than chilled, and since it is made from rice, is thought to have at least a small degree of value as food..."

The waiter put a drink in front of Una that looked like a fancy hot chocolate and stepped back to watch a bit.  He had heard who she was and wondered.  The paper had said she was actually human and not some sort of vat creature but he was not so sure. She looked so young.  Una had a sip and it tasted like chocolate but there was a sort of edge that warmed her.  She touched the glass and it was cold but it felt warm inside.  Lucretia watched wondering if Una was having some sort of bad reaction but then a smile broke out on Una's face.  "This is very odd but I like it."

Dee waved at the waiter, ordering a large venison middlecut shortloin, seared on the outside and bloody on the in. It was a perfect compliment to the heavy smoke of the scotch. .

Fetch ordered a warmed bottle of sake and two vessels, so that Una could try the beverage for herself. he poured her dishlike container halfway full, and showed her how to drink it down. "better to go easy on the stuff, though," he warned. "We don't want you getting too tipsy, or you 'll have trouble dancing..."

Just then, the band struck up a lively number.

Una nibbled the duck paring it with chocolate had been a bad idea but the duck itself wasn't bad different but not bad.  It was better with the sake but she was unsure if she would eat it again. Still it was better than the meatloaf back at the tower. "I feel all warm and soft is that being tipsy?"

"Yes. Duck is odd and I don't know what sort of animal it is. Pork however I do know." They had a picture of a happy pig on the menu board back at the tower.

Lucretia had dumplings that she savoured. If there was one thing she realy love from here that was it.  She looked at Dee smiling. "Do you dance?"

"Here," Fetch said, cutting off a generous portion of the pig from it's platter and and serving it onto her plate. "And, lets not forget the sauce.  Now, taste it, and if you need a little salt, then add a little at a time..."

Having passed through the multiple obstacles to gain entry to the club,  Sims Wellenhott and his date, a cute, curvy redhead with her hair in ponytails on either side of her head, sat down at the table catty-corner to that of the LeCroix Party. "Order whatever ya want, Sugar," he said. "It's on me, I got a big expense account on my current job."

"What kinda job izzit, Simmy baby?" Sugar said curiously.

"Watchin' some stiff an' 'is girl," he replied, glancing sidelong out of the corner of his eye at Fetch and Una at the neighboring table. "Old-line family wants to keep an eye on the dame."

"Whozit you're a-watchin', you sly boy, you?"

"Can't say, Sugar darlin'," he answered. "It ain't safe to say 'round 'ere, and the less you knows, the safer it is for youse."

Una tried a bite and her face lit up. "This is much better." She finished her drink and giggled.  When Una saw Lucretia looking at her funny she covered her mouth. "I never would have imagined this existed before. It is so sweet and bright." She could not fully express how happy she felt.

Thompson was not happy.  Old man Malone was blocking him from getting at the family's archives.  He was unsure of how the old man even knew he was sponging off the old databases. His research was incomplete he was missing the key. As it was now he could destroy the system and most likely the city but that wasn't profitable.  Mallory had the dammed key she had to.  He might have to go too the stinking city of so called progress in person.  Tho he was hoping it wouldn't take that. Dammed girl how could she keep that secret from him for so long?

Sugar decided to powder her nose, as the saying went. She excused herself and left Simms looking forlornly after her. So, he ain't really here only for th' job, huh? She thought when she looked back while still walking forward. Silly Simms, you knows I'll be back, you handsome lump o' man you --OOPS! She bumped into a passing waiter, whose burden of wineglasses went flying upward and then came down just behind, in front of, and between Una and Fetch.

"Oh my gawd, I'm so sorry, honey," she apologized to the cute petite blonde girl. "Here lemme help you with that. Lucky it's all white wine, the red crap's a real stainer." she daubed the hem of Una's skirt. "Such a pretty dress too."

Simms got up and went over as well. "Sugar, honey, get some water on that napkin. Sorry folks, I guess us lovebirds got all dovey and lovesick at the wrong moment." he took the opportunity to get up close and examine the party at the Table. He also noticed a waiter hurrying away holding his arm in a funny manner, while his compatriot struggled to apologize. Now, that's odd, you'd think he'd stay to help out, Simms thought disractedly.

Una suddenly smelled very odd.  Sort of fruity and harsh. "This wont hurt me correct?" She was rather unsure that the wine wouldn't eat through things like the fluid she saw in the hangers at the tower.

Fetch paused a moment to look at Wellenhott. "Oh, hello, Mr. Wellenhott! We meet again." He examined the gumshoe's shabbily fancy attire, noting the lump under the rather rumpled dinner jacket that bespoke a large-bore sidearm, possibly even a blaster, and other lumps and nattered places; the man seemed to be carrying either a whole array of different gadgets, or else a formidable arsenal. He didn't seem or smell to be particularly aggressive, but rather watchful, and perhaps a bit...hmmm, stealthy, perhaps? But that was curiously well-masked.

Fetch had also noticed the waiter who favored one arm, but figured that the lump underneath the wrapping was the extra cloth they sometimes used for especially hot or heavy loads of orders; some even concealed slats or pipes under their padding towels for extra carrying capacity, though it made for more problematic balance. Still... He gently took hold of Dee's sleeve, and whispered sotto voce, "That waiter, I'm not sure about him. It might not be a bad idea to be on guard. Something seems off to me."

Sugar, meanwhile, dabbed her napkin in a water-glass, and daubed it over the wine-soaked areas. She noticed Una's look, and said, "Now, don' worry, Hon, it's just a li'l white wine, it's not dark enough to stain such a fine blue color, provided we get it nice and wet and soak it out... There, I think that's just about got it. What're you lookin' like that for?" Sugar chuckled, "It ain't gonna eat it up, baby girl, don' worry."
