First progress report of my Implausible Long-Nose fish sub build. I designed the master/etch for this submersible model kit (and the original 'Fantastical' version) and am doing a pre-release paint-up build-log as usual. Going to use many of the same techniques that I used for the copper Fantastical sub paint-work, but this time in brass! Check out the gallery (click the gear icon on the site) for my other steampunk and sci-fi builds. Thanks!

Thanks!

That's brilliant. I often feel very envious of the talent people display on here, but I use that envy to spur myself to greater efforts  Grin

Thanks all!

More progress on the sub. Painting the hull in bare metals to match the real fish. Here's the end result of todays work, but I've got a lot more to do such as picking out (focused painting on) small parts and the whole interior and underside. There's a whole SBS on painting, paints used, etc here:

Thanks! Yes, Dr. Torque won the costume contest. In fact I'll be posting the finished pics of the figure's 3D any day now. (as soon as I get them) and then he's off to the 3D printer, then caster to be released at the same time as the Manchu Steam Car kit we're producing.

Actually, we have a killer squid I designed and am having someone do in 3D as the next sub release. Hammerhead is definitely on the list though! (I have a large list and pile of sketches for future designs :-) ) I have a new flying insect master done as well to go with the Hornethopter. It's still a secret unannounced project to be released later this year as a kit.

Thanks guys! I should have more progress soon. Was working on the display base today. Similar to the reef base I did for the other sub.

I don't have a new blog update to show yet, but I tend to post teaser images on Facebook. Here's one of the nearly copleted and put-together sub. I still need to finish the valve wheels and weather it by adding additional grime and patinas, same as I did on my other Fish Sub.

If you mean the sub design master sculpt, then yes, I designed that. Here's an early progress image when it was still just bondo auto putty over carved foam. I use whatever works!

Started on the patina/weathering. Getting a nice dark stained brass tone using various AK-Interactive filters in a way they probably were not intended for. LOL! I love doing that!

That is beautiful. I'm tempted to order one but seeing how great that one looks almost puts me off  Grin

Interesting that you use Bondo for the design work - my uncle makes theater props and he uses Bondo all the time, in fact he's always moaning that they don't sell it in 55 gallon drums the same as how he buys his resin  Cheesy

Thanks, but don't let that stop you. I actually like seeing others interpretations of my kits. For me, that's part of the fun in doing them in the first place. Cool

Yeah, bondo is great stuff. Toxic as hell, but if used correctly it's strong, light-weight, toolable, etc....

I love this model!

You might want to share this on the Ultimate Reef or Reef Central forums, there's going to be some definite interest in this from the reefkeeping community as well as steampunk.
