HAC: unless you have a sidejob as a pimp, I hope you haven´t been seen outside in those boots.
Oh my, how to explain Western culture.. Boots like that are quite common here in Calgary, you should see some of the stuff that gets made locally. I know a fellow with a pir of alligator boots that put mine to shame.. Heck, I've got some retro Scully shirts that are, to non Western eyes, odd.. How about this? Granted these are mainly for Stampede, or other Western occsions, but here's a shot taken of me at the office, couple years back.. That's a fairly common mode of dress around here, (you can juts make out the boot-tops in that pic) Add in some large buckles, and you get the idea (by large, I mean 4" or so) Cheers Harold Them are kinda plain from my perspective, living in Texas and all. My father went to school with Tony Lama, so I have had hand made boots most of my childhood. They have gotten too expensive for me lately, so I just go to the Tony Lama Outlet Store in El Paso and buy 2nds for half price. Havn't gotten a new Stetson in a while though.

These are my boots (or one of my 3 pairs rather). It's rather difficult to take pics of one's own feet with a webcam, so please forgive the rather scandalous exposure of my leg in the process. Better pics (and pics of the other pairs) at a later date.

I have size 13 feet (= USA 14 I think)... Joy for me would be to walk into a highstreet shoe shop and buy a pair of shoes that fit me... I can dream... Size 14! At that size you have to have all your shoes custom made. I don't have it quite that bad, I wear a 12 1/2 though which is a nonstandard size so store bought shoes are all too large or too small but at least I can wear shoes that are a little too big. I have a pair of boots that I had custom made for my viking garb, I should have a picture somewhere though I can't find it. I also had pretty good luck with my corcoran jump boots as I was actually able to order them in the right size.

Also, not boots but gorgeous Victorian-esque shoes... I love that style of shoes! I have a pair of boots (Raben) which are almost identical in style... but calf-high boots, and pair of Mollini shoes very similar to yours, but with a somewhat higher heel (well, relative to length at least) and pointed toes. I love them so much! Were it not for the heels thing, I'd wear one pair or the other all the time! As for shoe sizes, I'm at the opposite end of the scale to many of you. I have tiny-tiny feet, but I don't usually have problems finding shoes to fit; except for in big department stores for some reason, where I am often informed that "the children's section is on the next floor down, if you'd like to try there, dear..." Not necessarily a bad thing: kids shoes are often much cheaper!

Dear Flynn,
the kind of comments I get with "wide" (over a B width) feet are usually said with a snooty attitude "Oh well if you have feet that wide, you want "comfort shoes" and we only sell high fashion style here". I got tired of that and just started getting my shoes made for me. If I want faddy "dress-up" or costume shoes I go to DSW, an outlet place and immediatly head for the sale rack.

*Sighs* People. The department store shoe people are usually fairly nice about it.... but I occasionally get that same sort of attitude when I'm shopping for jeans, so I know what you mean. The undertone is like "well, if you're going to insist on being that shape, I am going to have to ask that you leave and not come back until you've done something about it." (I have fairly big hips, a little waist and a bit of a sway back, so jeans almost always gape massively at the back. The comment usually comes when I'm trying to pinch in the waistband to work out how easily I can take darts in the back of them ^Q;;; )

i have the other opposite problem. My feet are very long and narrow. I usually wear a size 10, which is nearly always a bit wide for me. And you can get extra-wide shoes, but not extra narrow ones.

dear Flynn,
When I get that attitude in stores, I take the time to find out the salespersons name, then go to the customer service office or store manager and fill out a complaint form. It will not have any immediate effect, but if enough customers do the same thing, it will get noticed. It's a quiet way of dealing with attitude.

P.S. I like this forum....talking about footwear isn't considered too "girly" for the guys to show off their boots, too.

I have the same problem with pants, I wear a size 29 which doesn't really exist (either 28 or 30) so I have no choice but to buy pants which are too large and then wear a belt. I could actually wear large childrens sizes but the lengths would be too short. Big feet and a small waist. You have to love genetics.

I'm quite fond of this recent purchase, but it may just be because of the buckles. You can kind of see them here:

Both my mother & brother have very wide feet & have always worn birkinstoks (sp?) which are fairly fashionable in London (although now are becoming less popular, with their increasing frequency) As always my favourite place to acquire footwear would be charity shops & flea markets (you can find the most amazing items!), although that being said; on the very rare chance that I may be on the continent, I might venture into a shoe shop in search of espadrilles.

My boots: They are a very well worn pair of Doc Martens, and I am quite happy to say that I have a wonderful cobbler here who claims he is able to resole them once they are far too worn to actually wander about in. Miss Hazard those are lovely boots, as are the ones the rest of you currently possess.

Since everyone is complaining about sizes I thought I would throw my boot in the ring. I wear a size 9 EEE (american sizes) that means really short and really really wide, try finding good boots that size, to top it off my jean size is 33W X 34inseam, 33 is a size that is also rare if not impossible to find. To an end, I usually walk around in too big jeans and too big boots, it kind of makes me look like a plain-clothes clown.

I too have wide feet. And lately, it's getting nearly impossible to find anywhere that has any choices for width. After all, it's much cheaper to stock/make only the "normal" sizes.
I have the same problem with gloves. In order to fit over my hands, I have to buy XL gloves, but then the fingers are long. Having leatherworking as a second profession and carpentry as a hobby leaves one with "meaty" hands. My partner's father was a butcher, he and I have pretty much the same type of hands.

Ooooh, I'm suffering from boot envy! I love some of the lace up styles I'm seeing. If were going to complain about boot width, can we complain about ankles too? I've got my moms wide feet, and my dad's teeny tiny ankles! (Yes, my dad has smaller ankles than my mom, and he's 6 foot one!) So, finding anything that provides any support, not to mention laces properly around the ankle, is impossible! it also means I can't wear high heels, unless I'm on a suicidal bend.... I actually managed to nearly break my ankle in a pair of high quality military boots that are supposed to provide full ankles support.... I I just couldn't get the darn things to lace tightly around my ankles.

Dear Gwen,
Have you experimented with a padding around your ankles?
I have trouble with arch support. My arches are so high that I look for shoes with at least a 4" high heel to get good arch support. On the plus side, I can walk around in high-heeled pumps for hours without sore feet.

"A Plain-clothes clown!" LMAO! We wear the same size in jeans, although I can usually get by with a 34x36 since our true size is so damn hard to find. I am 6'2", so this size is apparently not out of proportion. As for boots, I share that with the gent who wears the 12.5 W boats... Real dickens finding that size, but I can generally make due with a 13. Fashion appears to taper off at that size and what is left is "what fits" as opposed to "something that looks sporty". I must say, this thread has done wonders for my self-body-image. v/r Yuri
