O exulted Oracle, Goddess of Letters, Nephele, I invoke you! *Throws a dash of saltpeter into the hearth, and bows with dagger at hand after placing the sacrifice on the altar* I have been a member in this forum for a very long time now, and have risen through the ranks, and yet I have never been in your presence. I humbly stand before you asking for inspiration. My real name is male and is found in these scrambled letters: hailmnwzunlinbdaanjo My default persona is Admiral Johannes Wilhelm (male), but I am looking for a name for an androgynous character, and actually all gender-neutral, male or female variants are acceptable and useful (to see why and for whom the name is read below). I search in hope that you may have some ideas. ~ ~ ~ Following my induction into Brassgoggles, as I rose through the ranks, I developed my alter ego, the good old Admiral Johannes Wilhelm, the son of Bavarian and Austrian parents who immigrated to Texas as a child. But now as his story has developed over the years, it has expanded into a greater universe (possibly a future novel), and a new character has emerged, an Elf-like type of Airship Engineer/mechanic from Austria. In a sense these two characters are very loosely mirrors of my person. But I can't get inspired to make up a name, and so I find myself here. As a deeper background to that unnamed character (if that helps any): Admiral Johannes Wilhelm, was a German born immigrant, who came as a child to Texas in the late 1840s. A veteran of the Franco-American airship battle over the Desert of Sonora, Wilhelm saw himself a Union/Allied hero of the 1871 World War, which was fought between the United States, the United Kingdom and Prussia versus the Conferderate States, France and the Austrian-Mexican forces. When then-Captain Wilhelm captured the Confederate Airship Alamo, among the crew, he found Austrian Luftschiffengel engineers and maintenance personnel. Being the son of Austrian and Bavarian parents, Wilhelm spoke their language and offered them freedom away from Union/Allied prisoner camps in exchange for service aboard the captured ship which was re-christened the United States Airship Orca. These Luftschiffengel or "Airship Angels" are an elven-like people, known as Engelfolk, who are not fantastical creatures, but rather a type of social group from the Catholic regions of Bavaria, Austria and Switzerland. These Engelfolk or "Angel People" are basically an umbrella group for what we in modern time would call the LGBQT community (so they are not necessarily straight, gay or transgender, but rather an amalgamation of all possible permutations that are "variant"), and basically are the European version of the Native American "Third Gender" concept. Originating in antiquity, probably among the migrating Allemanni and Goth tribes during the fall of the Roman Empire, these people would be tolerated by the Catholic church since Early Mediaeval times on condition of celibacy. But I assume they were persecuted by the Protestant in Northern Germany, leading to a type of Diaspora for these Germanic people. The Engelfolk, were valued in society as "supernatural" beings because they combined stereotypically masculine traits like strength and concentration, with feminine traits like small body size, grace, flexibility and multitasking. These characteristics made them valuable as airship maintenance crew members, and so they became ubiquitous aboard military airships, and became known as Airship Angels or Luftschiffengel. The military airships became the Engelfolk's refuge. In real history, Protestant Prussia was quarreling with Catholic Austria over political control of the German states, since Napoleon ended the Holy Roman Empire in 1806. Their conflict would peak between 1862 and 1871, with Prussia under the direction of Chancellor Otto von Bismark, wrestling control away from Austria, and excluding it from the German Federation, which is why Austria did not form part of the Deutsches Reich (German Empire) in 1871. I combine this internal German conflict in the 1860s to the fact that at the same time, an Austrian prince, Maximilian was installed as Emperor of Mexico, during the French Intervention in 1864, and which happens to overlap with the American Civil War (1861-65). So I presume that in desperation, the Confederate States could have asked help from Maximilian and France to fight the Union (northern United States) in exchange for unincorporated American Southwest territory being returned to Mexico I use all this real history for creating the Diaspora for the Engelfolk, and as a pretext for a World War leading to Wilhelm's famous battle fought in the skies over Southern USA and Mexico. J. Wilhelm, what an absolutely fantastic concept! I love your creativity!
Will either of these names work?
Wodinaz Julin Bahlmann Jannina Bluma Windholz = hailmnwzunlinbdaanjo
Wodinaz: reconstructed Proto-Germanic form of "Wotan," derived from the Proto-Germanic word woÞuz, meaning "poetic fury."
Julin: variant of the name "Julian," which can be either masculine or feminine.
Bahlmann: German surname, meaning "bold man."
Windholz: German surname, meaning "wind wood," conjuring an image of the wind blowing through a small forest.

Thank you Dear Nephele! You know? I'm liking the first one in transposed form: Julin Wodinaz Bahlmann. It has a nice ring to it, probably because of the familiar length of the first and second names. I think I can make this work. I like the second name too. I'll find a place for it. Jannina is such a sumptuous name. And Windholz almost sounds like a technical name. Maybe an engineer? The Luftschiffengel are tentatively the precursor of a worldwide order known as "The Guild" which I'm going to tie probably to The Guild mentioned in the Diesel/Steampunk Japanese Anime Last Exile. Bahlmann and Windholz are great sounding surnames. "A Windholz engine"
