https://sparegoggles.forumotion.net/

....although the guys that started that one haven't posted on there for years either.

Yes it is, but it runs through about 6-8 different catchpa photos before allowing you through - took me 8!

That's weird! Did you tick both the boxes on the terms & conditions - I missed that the first time, because it's right at the bottom of the page. If you have any more problems, email me & we can work something out - I might be able to register you for you, and then you can change your password.

Whereas it just seemed to accept my assurance that I'm not a robot, (little does it know), but I have to wait for the account to be activated by an administrator.  That's always provided I've done it right of course; me and technology are not particularly friendly ...

I'm not sure there are any Administrators who still go there.

There is an auto-reply: "Your account is currently inactive, the administrator of the board will need to activate it before you can log in. You will receive another e-mail when this will be done.

Please do not forget your password as it has been encrypted in our database : we cannot retrieve it for you. However, if you forget your password you can request a new one which will be activated in the same way as this account"

However, nothing else has happened since!

If Proteus has abandoned BG and SpareG allso. My main question is... who is paying the bills?

It costs money to host this site, so???

I've got a feeling that somebody will have to buy both domains, when they become available (& some web space to boot).

There's a donation option at the top of the page.

I've been paying $3 a month for nearly 10 years. I assume others have been doing the same.

I have, however, cancelled this direct debit as it appears I'm giving money for no reason.

I'll happily start donations again should the site be saved.

This is the page.

If we don't have active administrators at Sparegoggles.forumotion.net, then the only thing left to do is start a new forum with the current active administration. The attractive part of sparegoggles.forumotion.net was that it's ad supported. My suggestion is to use that kind of forum.

The problem is we do not have any active Administration here apart from Moderators.
We can kick the tyres but we can't get under the hood.
I don't know how we could transfer all of these years of posts and information and interaction.

There will be a loss anyway. Many of the posts lost their pictures when photo bucket (?) changed its embedding policies. The important thing is not losing contact with one another, while for some, simultaneously, maintaining their anonymity. Mayhaps we may be able to keep Brassgoggles.co.uk as an archive of sorts, with links.

I have a Facebook page which I wouldn't use because it belongs to "business past" (I believe in separation of SP business and SP social posts), so I'd have to create a new one. I have active Pinterest and DeviantArt pages that I could share under my Luftschiffengel persona. I'm mostly active on Pinterest. If I understand correctly, DeviantArt also has forums, I don't know what format, or whether they're useful. Sad to hear sparegoggles.forumotion.net is " locked" to us.

Just a little addition to this.

According to the Statistics page for this Forum there have been over 700 NEW MEMBERS since May.

Obviously a large number of these would have turned out to be Spam or Bots.

But not all.

However, whether genuinely interested or looking to Spam, NONE of these NEW MEMBERS will have been able to post ANYTHING since May.

That is all.

I hate to suggest this, but is there any reason to think that Proteus is still on this plane of existence, or not?

He stopped in last week to kick the registration emails loose. That's why we've suddenly got spammers again.
