OK. It's that time again.
The 4th volume in the Asylum Chronicles will be entitled "Ghosts of the Asylum".
The rules will be as per the previous three volumes.
Overview:
Autumn 1996. Two recently qualified archaeologists, Jim Smith and James Bourne, are investigating the ruins of the Asylum at Lincoln. One carries the burden of a strange and damaging past, the other hides a deadly secret; although which is which is hard to say. They search for clues about a hidden past in the hope that the truth can ease their burden. As they search they disturb the forgotten stories of the Asylum; the ghosts of the past. At the end is the truth, but the truth can be a dangerous thing...
I have a list of ten possible titles for people to think about. PLEASE NOTE - these do not have to be ghost stories in the literal sense they can be ghosts in the figurative sense, meaning stories of people who have been forgotten.
Suggested titles:
Leave no trace. The bridge of time My last breath Some things are best forgotten The lonely hunter Before the sun rises Sleep, my friend... Deathly silence Signs and portents Ships in the night
If you are interested, let me know on this thread, then pm me a synopsis. As usual its first come first served.

Okay, I'm interested. We'll have to discuss a certain idea I hinted at earlier, now I think about it...

I'll give 'Ships in the Night' a shot. This year I should be plenty able to write it.

I'll have a go at "My Last Breath". As an asthmatic it's close to my heart (a bit too close unfortunately!).

Please include the real Road traffic sign on Union Street ?"All Directions" and an arrow towards the Lawn, between The Assembley Rooms and the Strugglers. Always thought that rather sinister.

So, on the subject of signs... at work, outside is a sign with a pointing arrow saying "employees only". And to what does it point, I hear you ask? A brick wall. Yup, that's exactly what my workplace is about...

Would you ladies and gentlemen like to help me hash out a describion of the feindish machine in my story?
It needs to be tall (an inch or 2 off teh ceiling), I envision it mostly as a piller but with a gurney for the victims patients to be stapped to for their treatment. Lots of wires and pipes and flashy bits. Possibly with a spinny turny thing at the top. Oh, an it needs a head grabbing, nightmare causing, contraption thingy attached.
I keep hitting bumps when trying to describe it in more detail than that because I still don't have the exact look fixed in my mind. But I can't GET the look fixed with out a working description. It's a bit of the old Catch 22 I'm afraid.

I'm not going to tell you what to write, but I'll give you this advice.
Don't be afraid to get some scrap paper and scribble. Annotated drawings - even very simple ones - can help a lot. I did this when working out the layout of the ship and the form of the bathysphere in Still Waters.
I'll also be doing it for another story later this year which is based around a series of wall paintings.
The think to remember is that while you are working it out - there is no wrong answer - just ideas that you modify or discard.
Its also worth taking time to look for inspiration. I've spent hours doing image searches on google for all sorts of strange things, just to see if anything triggers my imagination.
Good luck. I can't wait to read the finished story.

Hmm, Has anyone taken the title 'Some things are best forgotten'? Only the way my tale is going that would make a more convenient title than 'Bridge of Time'. Would anybody mind if I changed? No worries if someone else already has it, I can still make it work.

Ok.
This is effectively a holding post. I am still awaiting a synopsis from Corsair, I have had a couple via facebook, including one from Jonathon Green. We definately have enough stories for this to go ahead.
First drafts by the end of February please. If they are earlier - great, but I have a lot of editing to do before then, so you won't get your comments back until after Feb.
I'll set up a dropbox folder closer to the the time.
Thankyou everyone for your continued support for this project!
