Start looking for new translations!

According to this piece in the Wall Street Journal, many of Verne's works are being newly translated. The article also suggests that Verne might be considered the father of "hard SF." It's definitely worth a read.

     Dear Radio Saturday,

I'm glad to hear that Jules Verne is having a revival.  His works are a much better read than some of the stuff written today.

So how do you revive a thing that never died? I do applaud the new translations as trying to bring the story as written to other languages though!

A few modern translations of 20 000 Leagues came out recently, as was well needed because the original one was rubbish.
I prefer the Walter James Miller/Frederick Paul Walter translation myself, it's got excellent footnotes including some of Verne's originals.

The original translation may be rubbish, but it's still a ripping yarn and hard SF - I'm reading it now after a suprise discovery whilst tidying my bookshelves.
