This seemed the most appropriate section to post this in, but if it’s not, I apologize.

Greetings!

The rugged Mr. Roostwick, of Vancouver, BC, is going to be in the UK for the second half of August!  After visiting family on the west coast for a few days, I will be travelling around, & likely staying in London for most of the rest of my trip.  I was but a wee tot when last I set foot in beloved England, so this is a great opportunity to rove about the countryside like a brigand: storming landmarks, pillaging charity shops, & stopping by a few pubs while I’m at it (even brigands need a break now and then!).  Oh, and train rides.  Many, many train rides…*sighs wistfully*.

I want to meet you!  Curious about the Steampunk scene in Canada?  I’d love to chat, or just hang out.  Feel like being a tourist in your own country for a day?  I’m flush with wanderlust, & would love to have someone to wander with!  Let’s go antique or clothes shopping, take in a play or film, go to museums, find great photo spots, feast on good food & drink, & have some fantastic stories to tell!

I’ve been on the forum a while, and I’ve only recently started posting, but I would love the opportunity to get to know a few of you while I’m in the UK.  Some more on me in my intro post: http://brassgoggles.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,24351.1675.html  I’m generally an adventurous, friendly, conscientious, quirky, earnest, respectful, playful & stubborn fellow, who gets along with most everyone.

I’ll be “in town” during the second half of the month, & I’ll be attending the Abney Park concert on the 23rd, if anyone is still looking for someone to go with.  I’m also seeking accommodation during that time (even a couch would be welcome!), & can provide some compensation if necessary, or chop firewood/clean/cook/write poetry illustrating just how kind/talented/good looking you are. Wink

If you’ve got any concerns, or just want to get to know me better ahead of time, I’m more than willing to chat over Facebook, Skype, phone, or forum PM.

UK Steampunks, a rogue Canuck will soon be amongst you…and I aim to misbehave.  Who’s with me?! Cheesy

Good evening sir!
We shall be at the steampunk festival, playing on the Saturday- please do come and say 'ow do.

That aside, I'm midlands based, so may not catch up with you on the rest of your journey...

Hi Mr. Roostwick.

Do you mean London Scala on the 23rd for AP?  I'd hate for you to get your dates muddled and turn up the day after.

Good catch, Major!  Just a typo, thanks for pointing it out Smiley

Governess, which festival are you referring to?  I may actually be going through the midlands, as I intend on putting in some serious train time during my trip.

Cheers,

Hello, sir!

May be a bit out the way for your planned excursions, but should you find yourself in the North West, come by Preston and I'll happily say hi/hang out.

If you do make it to the NW then Manchester is certainly a place to snoop around, and I recommend scoping out Affleck's Palace - a bazaar for the bizare.
There's quite a few nooks and crannies with interesting shops - one particular comes to mind, shortly as you get off the train, past some charity shops. All sorts of knic-knacs to peruse.

If you're visit to our shores finds you here till the 8th of September, then please consider this an invitation to join us on our Steampunk Paranormal Pubcrawl (again, Preston), wherein a few of us are aiming to attract new blood during Fresher's week at UCLan by donning appropriate apparel and taking part in a curious game to win a few wee prizes on the night.

Either way, enjoy your stay!

My mistake, sir, Abney Park were due to play a festival in Wales the day after you're seeing them, but they're no longer playing there (though a lot of other bands still are!)

Serious train time eh? One hopes you have fully researched the spread of tickets and passes available for someone putting in serious train time.

Haberdash: PM sent.

Major:  Britrail seems to be quite reasonable with their passes, thanks for the reminder!

Still seeking London Steampunks for adventure & antique/clothes shopping!  I'll even buy you lunch Smiley

I'm currently in Manchester, heading out later to the west coast for a bit, before returning to London.  Anyone going to the Abney Park concert on the 23rd, & want a bit of company?

Cheers,
Mr. R

My dear Mr Roostwick,

Sadly I am not available to take advantage of your kind offer .  However, as you are of similar mind to myself, may I suggest you partake of a leisurely visit to: http://www.alfiesantiques.com/

Having never been there myself, but having been assured of the excellence of the contents of this warehouse, I believe that you would find attendance a most worthwhile time-waste.
