Only being familiar with Miss Hamer's musical offerings I had no idea she even did this kind of work. It transpires she is a professional facial analyst, and this is the first time this picture has ever been seen this clearly. Personally you may colour me exceptionally impressed. http://www.retronaut.co/2012/07/billy-the-kids-face-restored-c-1880/

Ron Howard's brother, Clint? No..it's not him ( I had to Google him to see what he looked liked and then recognised him as the alien child from Star Trek!)

The droopy eyes and open mouth kind of looks like Billy the Kid was mentally challenged. Or was this a halfway-blinking-during-conversation photograph? Continuing the guess the famous person: what about the banjo player from "Deliverance"?

He he, you could be onto something there, I have no idea how young Billy spoke, but looking at that pic I am imagining a southern drawl so twangy you could shoot a rocket to the moon with it.
Anyway as I say I only know Alexandra as a muso, but for once it is no insult to say don't give up your dayjob, cus you're damn good at it.

My shot at "Guess the clone": Rap "singer" Eminem I think just thoroughly insulted Mr. the Kid.

Ooh, just found this thread (Thank you Mr Longeye!) Thanks for the very positive comments - particularly from Mr Fairbrass who flatters me beyond my deserts! Incidentally, accent-wise, I believe Billy grew up in New York!

Not at all dear lady it's a brilliant job. Am I right in assuming it was just a close up crop you worked on or did you do the whole thing? I'm not too familiar with young Billy's origins, but I do know that picture is famous for causing various misconceptions about him. For example due to the fact that it presents a reversed image, a lot of folks even today still believe Billy The Kid was left handed.

But he was left handed. (and so was his rifle)

William Henry McCarty, Jr. (later W.H. Bonney) was a New Yorker of Irish descent. He spoke fluent Spanish which he learned during his years in the New Mexico Territory. It is, I believe, now generally conceded that he was right-handed (check the buttons on the waistcoat in the tintype - they are reversed.) He was not at all 'slow,' but was a rather well-spoken literate young man. The best information I have ever seen about Billy the Kid is at the wonderful New Mexico History Museum in Santa Fe, which if you ever have the chance, is not to be missed. They have a nice video showing Billy's penmanship and telling some of the story:
This is an interesting story of the auction of the Billy the Kid tintype:

Yes, Argus, I worked on a close crop of his face. I managed to find a fairly good copy of it. However, I would love to get my hands on a high quality scan of the original. You are quite right - the original is reversed as is normal for a tintype so my restoration has been re-reversed to show him as he was.
In reply to Prof. Flashbang Box, I agree, photo restoration can be quite easy but actually, this one is surprisingly difficult because there are elements of his face that have to be reconstructed and some of the damage misleads the eye to give a false impression of what lies beneath - his left jawline for example.

Hey!! Hmm, I don't think we look too similar though.. I'll have to dig way, way back to find myself a pic without a bit of facial fuzz.. Did he have blue eyes? Mine are brown, so that wouldn't work too well either.. I think this is the closest pic I could find.. Mehh.. I can pull off the wonky eye, especially when I'm tired, lol.. the nose, maybe.. my mouth is all different though.. Shape of the face is close enough.. but then there's the ears.. lol, I'd have to pin mine to a hat to get 'm to stand out like that..
