I have been wanting one of these for ages and now I am finally getting around to it. The problem is that there is a massive selection and I have no idea which one I want. My only criteria are that it most preferably be leather (rather than canvas), that it be large enough to hold 8.5X11 inch documents, that it be somewhat thick (so that it could hold at least one college textbook), and that it be a real military design or reproduction thereof (so as not to be mistaken for a girly handbag). My first stop was the militaria section of ebay and even there there is so massive a variety that I do not even know where to begin.

I used to make map tubes when I used to have a bit of time on my hands. In fact I might still have one or two still up in the attic with the stall stock. They were long enough to take A3 paper. I do actually need to make a new one for the cartography tent for the third foot and mouth authenty camps.

hmm, now i want to make one too! Thinking it would be perfect with my military-esque outfit I'm in the process of making. Although I think I've given myself enough to do making that in time for the Asylum, without adding to it ................... however, accessories, needed.

I have a nice leather dispatch case, big enough for a subnotebook or 9x12 paper. It was from Banana Republic, back when they were cool.

I really need to stop browsing this site in my free time... As is, I've got something like 90 unfinished/partway finished/need to start projects, and seeing stuff like this is NOT HELPING!

A little off topic but I spent a long time looking around for a suitable satchel, I found one but was a really silly price which I wasn't prepared to pay. I now have some 1904 model US cavalry saddlebags, which are great. Certainly very eye-catching.

If you're still looking for something, how about a poster mailer tube, covered in leather or what-not?
