The word pagan came from paganus , who mean peasant . Its was a way to significate than christianism was the religion of the elite and paganism the one of the savage worker class.

''Trickster shows us how we trick OURSELVES. Her rampant curiosity backfires, but, then, something NEW is discovered (though usually not what She expected)! This is where creativity comes from—experiment, do something different, maybe even something forbidden, and voila! A breakthrough occurs! Ha! Ha! We are released! The world is created anew! Do something backwards, break your own traditions, the barrier breaks; destroy the world as you know it, let the new in.''

Ahh, the mammory nipping malicious male mallard.

I was once chased by two guard geese on a farm I was working at, wings out and in full pecking at my buttocks mode.  Tongue My apprentice thought it highly amusing.  Grin

My own goose once had a go at me - they 'clap' their wings on front of them to make a noise to frighten, and the very tip of his wing caught my little finger. I was sure he had broken it. The pain was quite bad... Wouldn't have thought being hit by a feather would cause any harm.

I think Halloween got started early this year. It's 9 pm and our dog suddenly went bezerk on us
I turned off the lights and took a peek outside. There's 4 teenagers down the street dressed in very large dinosaur costumes. I don't know if they're going to a costume party or they're playing pranks (trick or treating one month early?), but I'll see if I can sneak up and take a picture.

Not being from North America, I can't say I've ever had candy corn, but I've been told it doesn't really taste like much. Would be nice to at least try it someday, though!

Being from North America, but not since I was a kid, I love candy corn and have bemoaned the lack of them here for the last 50 years.*

*You can now occasionally get them here in speciality US candy stores, but when they cost as much as a good meal it's hard to justify buying them.

Not being from North America I've often wondered what a skunk smells like, and if it is as bad as it is made out to be. (Now I don't want a face-full of skunk stink, just a very tiny whiff, so I know...)

I've always said that mariguana smoke smells like a farting skunk. Therefore a skunk smells like a very a very amplified smell if mariguana minus the fart!  Make of that what you will   Grin

Helga von Trauschenberg (standing on the left) is one of the pioneers of uneven thermodynamics, the closest associate of Landau. The first von Trauschenbergs go back to an impoverished Saxon family that moved to Yamburg (now Kingisepp) under Anna Ioannovna, and were engaged in engineering for several generations.

Maria Aristidovna Sumarokova-Elston (sitting on the right) is the niece of the same Felix Yusupov, one of the authors of the textbook on the electrodynamics of homogeneous (continuous) media, at the time of photographing — candidate of sciences, already the author of more than 90 scientific papers, doctoral student of Isaac Markovich Khalatnikov, assistant editor of the Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics.

Photo Thomas Hammond, a Russian scholar, professor of history at the University of Virginia, who took several hundred excellent color photographs of the Soviet Union in the 50s and 60s.

The photo was taken on Sunday, when a bus full of MIPT employees and (among whom at least two future Nobel laureates) were returning from "mushroom picking" - Petr Leonidovich Kapitsa's favorite entertainment, which he arranged for employees almost every week in the fall.
