I wanted something that I could use everyday that had a steampunk feel.  Being a dirty smoker, I modified (more like added to) a couple of my Zippo lighters.  Since I haven't mastered the art of silver soldering small parts, everything has been JB welded.  I am quite suprised at how well this stuff holds.  The brass one has been in my pocket almost every day for the past 6 months with no joint failure.

Steampunk zippo #2

Very nice. Smiley

I built a copper and brass butane windproof one from scratch, sort of similar to your zippo #2 (but not quite as detailed. I mainly use it as a backup for when my zippo runs out of fuel / forgot to refill or I run out of flints (and also for Cigars - zippo not so good there...). That's the nice thing about butane - it doesn't evaporate unexpectedly on a hot day... Wink My zippo is an unmodified brass "Venetian Slim" model that I've had for 20 years. Needs a new strike wheel though, it's a little worn, so it may get a few "upgrades" soon. Wink

Nice Job on both.
Last week I went into a sort of class with a friend that makes sculpture and Jewellery with copper and brass (some Steampunk Now)
anyway he tried to show me how to Silver solder ....I use sticks or rods of the stuff and tends to get it everywhere.
So lesson was that for a start my rod of solder was far to big so he heated it up to the point where it started to drop then flattened it with a hammer, from this he cut small tiny bits, the idea is to get what you want to solder onto something and place a small bit of solder on the joining side heat it up until the solder melted and ran over the small bit, he than cooled and cleaned it then placed it onto where it was to be soldered and then heated the bit it was to join not the bit being joined, then it just sort of heated up it's self then fell into place soldered with no flash of solder all over the place like normal (ME).
The trick is solder runs to the heat or hot part so a pre soldered bit has all the solder it needs and the solder just melts over to the larger bit.
But for what you have on your zippo's I would not worry to much if you ever see mine.

Nice looking Zippos. I'd never heard of 'JB Weld' before so I just Googled it! Sound like the very thing I could use as I also have zero skills in welding/soldering and  no suitable place or equiptment to do it even if I could!

JB Weld sounds like an excellent pseudonym for a Steampunk author.

Sounds like one for the Library of "Books never written" for steampunks.

Thanks for the compliments. These are my first forays into steampunk.
JB Weld is amazing stuff. Paul Harvey swore by it when he was still counted among the living.
