I liked the Meccano, but could never pinch enough pieces to make anything serious! We did have a meths driven steam engine for a while, but I never knew what happened to that.
That gunboat is great, even if a little forward heavy. Will have to visit the toy shops when next 'the city'!

The Countess and I and a couple of pals are off to Legoland next weekend (Sat 30th). Had no idea how incredibly expensive it was to get in! We have a 2 for 1 voucher so that should bring the cost down a bit. Looking forward to it immensely..and to hitting the gift shop!

I think you might have to explain what that second one was meant to be.
In the film, Harrison Ford wins a fight around the flying wing by pushing his adversarie's head in to the propeller. |

I remember that scene (fortunately the viewers don't have to see the guy's mutilated dead body after the fight). I keep wondering what kind of plane that was though. I'm not even sure if it is a real-life plane design, if it was I'm fairly certain it never went into production. The Germans had a lot of cool but impractical prototype aircraft. |

I wasn't sure if the B2 actually counts as a flying wing or not. There was also that sighting by Kenneth Arnold back in 1947, who knows what that was.

This is a flying wing flying  That's one of the XB39s.
Northrop N-9M, one of the small scale prototypes of the Northrop 39 range.
The Horton Ho.229 (WW2 german prototype jet powered flying wing) did quite well in its test flights stability wise. Engine problems destroyed the last prototype though. Northrop had a couple of designs that worked successfully (and a few that didn't - the stylishly crazy XP-79 for example) Flying wings can fly, they've been around since the 1920s in glider format (Horton were big on gliders and did a lot of tailless flying wing style gliders in the 20s and 30s before the outbreak of WW2 - they too that forward into their plane development). It's not that they can't fly, it's just that they're hard to fly. Huge difference. |

There's also a great series of books "Luftwaffe secret projects" on the subject. Lego wise, no Indiana Jones Zeppelin i'm afraid - I did look. -Matt |
