Alas, even with this early notice it's too expensive as I would have to pay  for a family of five for this trip and I'm looking at possibly having to deal with school costs next year for three members of the family.  Cry  Cry  Cry

Unfortunately this conflicts with one of my work board meetings in Fairbanks but my wife is thinking about going without me.

Steamcon IV patron tickets are $235.00 and the motel is $119./night so about $468.00 before food.  We have to fly or take the http://www.dot.state.ak.us/amhs/ to get to either.  You can make sacrifices to save money at cons but cruises come with a lot more bells, whistles, and food.  SP like pretty much everything else costs money.  When we are lucky and wise we get what we pay for.  The idea of cruises is very appealing to me.  I think that I could immerse myself more for a week on a ship and enjoy myself more.  I like the sounds of a cruise and hope that it will generally take SP in a positive direction.

Atterton - Not to put you on the spot or anything negative, but what would be your "dream" SP activity(s)?  I enjoy your many of your posts here and would seriously would like to hear your visions for the future of this genre.

I do hope this happens - my reservations are in, and I'm gearing up for some marathon sewing lessons with my spouse...  Grin

Price drop to $999. double rooms and $899./four place....   Due to a change in work there is now at least a slim chance that we can go but I am hesitant to make reservations yet until things settle down here.

Hope they settle down soon - the lowered prices are only guaranteed for another 6 days, according to the Facebook page...  Sad

We actually talked two more friends of ours into joining us on the cruise.  Grin

And now the reservation fee has been dropped to $100.00....   Still it would be nice to have a better idea of exactly where and what I'll be doing next March.

They've also extended the price break to October 1, so you've got some additional time for your calendar to sort itself out... Good luck, Captain!

We have sent in our deposits since it looks like we should be able to make the cruise.

Although I have only heard glowing things from cruise passengers, I am not very clear on what to expect.

It looks like we will not only have a chance to see the Mayan temple ruins on Cozumel but should be able to take a ferry to the mainland and visit Chichen Itza which sounds wonderful.  This is assuming that the Mayans were wrong about the whole end of the world thingie.   Grin

My lady wife just made our airlines reservations the other night.  My work board meetings have changed radically allowing us to go.  We are going by way of Gulf Wars XXII http://www.gulfwars.org/ where we can catch up with a lot of old friends who sadly (and unwisely) will not come visit us in Alaska.   Huh

Despite many good folks' reassurances, I am not sure what I shall do with myself on a cruise besides eat too much.  Does anyone else going play backgammon?  Or?

Is anyone else planning to go to Gulf Wars XXII?

I feel compelled to state that I have a VIP ticket to the Steampunk Cruise Land Party on 15/03/2013, that I will be unable to use. If anyone is interested in obtaining said ticket, even if you are not going on the cruise, P.M me for more info.

We just disembarked from the First SteamPunk Cruise.  I would have to write a novel to cover everything in half the detail it deserves.  The Mayan ruins were Tulan and not enough time to explore.  The Jamaican High Tea was at the beautiful Good Hope Estate built in 1755 and wonderful and I am hard to impress with tea.  The new Abney Park board game is excellent and a must buy when it comes out.  The food was endless and fantastic delivered by a very enthusiastic crew.  Most of all our fellow SPs were some of the best and most talented folks in the whole of the SP world.  Hopefully we will have many pictures to post soon.
