I looked around and didn't see another thread like this, so I hope its not a repeat.

What  song, or piece of music inspires your imagination with dreams of steamy adventure? Doesn't have to be your favorite song, just one that inspires you.

 I'd have to go with
The Time Machine OST 6 I Don't Belong Here

Its from that awful remake of The Time Machine from a couple years ago, but to me it bring to mind images of airships sailing off to new adventures.

'Discombobulate' by Hans Zimmer.

Most us probably know it for this:

I have many ones, depending of the mood.

To lightest to grimest (warning: You have to consider than my inner steampunk world was made by Walt Disney's evil emo brothers, Edit: or in other word is a dark humoristic world like the one of Fritz, only more cartoonish, to understand my choice, especially the four first ones )  :
Selena Gomez - Live like theres no tomorrow (Lyrics)

(Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa to be such a manchild)
Castles In The Sky (Oh Tell Me Why) Ian Van Dahl (lyrics)

Heaven - DJ Sammy & Yanou - Featuring Do & Alia

Ah, a good question, there are so many -- one that comes to mind is the Karl Jenkins theme from the movie of 'The Time Machine' ?

For Fritz, I often listen to something dark and eery sounding (or, alternately, something happy and cheery sounding as Fritz's universe is intended to be darkly comedic) and imagine flying in my zeppelin, looking down below at a landscape of ruined cities, zigzagging trenches and earthworks, shell craters, and piles of rubble and corpses.

If imagining a battle, I will frequently listen to Beethoven or Wagner.

Nice. And faintly similar to the TV Holmes theme.

Perhaps a bit more on the fantasy side, but a number of the tracks definitely evoke the sense of flight and/or exploration (at least to me Wink )

Definitely not any where near period. But any time I imagine or write out an adventure. This song pops up and starts repeating itself. Definitely a good song for a daemon hunter.

There's some wonderful music on You Tube by a young composer who goes by the moniker Feroyn.  This one is a particular favourite:

Very cool Daedalus. I'll check him out.

Trevor Jones theme from Cleopatra is a nice one if you're into Egyptian adventure.

Been a fan of his work going all the way back to The Dark Crystal.

Also, the musics not very steamy, but the visuals from the Animusic series are quite nice.

Mr West, very much enjoyed Animusic - thank you for bringing him/her/them/it to my attention!

I find most of the tracks suggested so far to be too serious or intimidating, full of threat and impending doom to be of much use to me going off on an adventure. Whilst I recognise such enterprises often entail danger and excitement, I prefer to kid myself that it's all going to be fine with some jolly little piece of music that will make me feel good and smile a lot. Currently Caravan Palace fills that slot in my life.

You're very welcome. I've been a great fan of these videos since they came out in the early 2000's.
Heres one I forgot. Recorded at a lower resolution, but the closest thing to a steamy device in the lot. Animusic - Drum machine (2001) HD (Embedding disabled, limit reached)
But I tend to agree. I like my music to give me goosbumps, and have  a preference for classical (doing a search for 'Epic Music' on Youtube brings up tons of great compilations) Though somber music definately has its place.
I really like your clip though. So cute and danceable!
Of course, I'm also rather fond of the Lovecraft-inspired group AKLO. Lovecraftian Music - AKLO - Beyond Madness (Embedding disabled, limit reached) Doesn't get much darker than that. Cheesy

I find Middle Eastern sounding music works well for my dieselpunk/ pulp "adventurer archaeologist" character. The soundtracks for the Middle Eastern and African civilizations in the "Civilization" series of computer games actually has some fairly good music (Civ IV in particular had an amazing soundtrack all-around).

Civilization IV: Warlords - Al Nadda (Main Theme) (Embedding disabled, limit reached)

Civ V didn't have as good a soundtrack as Civ IV (nor was it anywhere near as good a game), but it did have a few good tracks.

depending on the type of adventure i suppose....

im always partial to Apocalyptica, Nightwish, and ES Posthumus for the more epic and daring adventures.

while the sounds of The Gaslight Anthem  always make me want to jump a train and see where it will take me.

Jamestown: Legend of The Lost Colony (isn't Roanoke actually the lost colony) is a wildly historically inaccurate but cool-looking game with an epic soundtrack. I don't usually like most shooters (mostly because I'm bad at them and many of them lack a plot), but Jamestown was pretty neat to watch other people play.

Why is it I keep posting video game soundtracks? I don't even actually play video games very often (when I do they are usually in the 4X genre).

Probably because with a few exceptions, video games are the last bastion of epic storytelling and sweeping musical scores.
