Ladies and Gents,

SkinzNhydez of the Justin Bieber arm fame is trying to find himself a workshop.  I haven't seen a topic posted here about this so I wanted to mention it.  I follow him on Facebook and it looks like he's trying to get some money together for a workshop.   I guess he's been doing all of his work in his tiny little apartment and is asking for donations to help him rent out a workspace.

I donated because I figure if I can help a maker of things that I like that I probably should.  I'm lucky enough to have a garage to build in and I wish everyone else could have the same.  I just thought I would add it here.

Ian certainly deserves a proper workspace and I hope he finds it without getting on the hook.

I have a very unique workshop that I would be willing to rent out for $50,000.00 per month.

I comes with a two bedroom house.

The workshop is big enough for one large table saw, and a spittoon.

Ihave lots of space. The problem is that being in the Wisconsin backwoods  it wouldn't serve him well. Hope he finds a good spot.

Does he do this full time or on a part-time/hobby/for the love of it basis?

And you know what? Capt. Salt's worskshop is worth that much rent.

You know I put that whole Justin Bieber thing in the past and have since respected his work for the amazing quality that it is and find it worthy of the respect of fellow artists that he drew the attention of a "famous person."  At least it was not a mass murderer or something.  (even if music history was harmed)  Truthfully if he upgraded to a Thomas Kinkade level of "sell-out" complete with workers doing his work, I actually would not blame him and would probably respect him still.  Now that you have said that he has been doing this out of a tiny apartment I am actually taking it personally that despite the Bieber thing, he's in an apartment.  I really hope he had a lawyer look over the contract, but if he didn't take too great of a contract out of modesty, then I definitely respect him and from here on out loath myself.  (I have been quoted as saying that "Artists need to be whores if they want to eat."

Edit:  My anger is based upon 1890-1915 art costs when Renoir could buy a house with a painting or two and purchase pretty things to put in it with unsigned drawings of random stuff.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Ian is not the only one who got started in his apartment.... (http://brassgoggles.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,34368.0.html).  My contract with Sony was really small actually.  Please don't assume that contracts with big or famous people and/or companies will change fundamentally your income level.  It's not like winning the lottery.  You are building yourself up over time.

Thanks everyone.

The great people of the Brass goggles forum really helped me to start up. It has been a place of inspiration and encouragement... to say the least!

I actually didn't have a contract with Justin Bieber...nor wanted one. Perhaps I will be contracted out by a producer or company of some sort in the future. But what I would like to do is just do what I'm doing, create on my own time and provide a roof over my head. As a lot of you probably know, it's really hard to produce anything in such a small space and keep everything organized as well as have the necessary proper tools, which I don't.

This is my livelihood for more than just obvious reasons. I do this from my home mostly because I suffer from Social phobia, I can't do many events... in fact I only do one a year, which is the Victoria Steam Expo. Trust me, its hard for me to get the courage and psych myself up to even leave the house. It sounds ridiculous but its true! lol

Ehm...sorry just rambled on... totally off topic.

Anyway, Thanks for all the support over the years everyone! I haven't been on the forums for awhile, but glad to see that the community has grown!

Definitely a good thing to support.   And the hardest part about going out, can be fixed by the company you keep.  I can't think of a better group to be with than fellow steampunk.  Keep your chin up and keep doing that magic you do.   The rest of the world will fall into place.

I'll make sure the local group knows.  Most of us have trouble finding two nickles to rub together, but they can at least help spread the word you need new digs.

Best of luck
