I'm a musician so I can get away with being 'odd' pretty much 24/7,...I try to take advantage of that. Biggest problem now is I need more outfits to feel comfortable in. I hate dressing nice for a couple days, then having to go to jeans and a t-shirt because my clothes are dirty. I can't wait until I have about 2 weeks worth of nice outfits to mix/match and play with.

No. It is not what you wear, but how you wear it which defines you as an individual. (Although I seem to be "that guy with the panama hat" at a few places now.)

The long hair in my profile pic? I've still got it. Wearing a ponytail makes you stand out in an office environment. Besides that I don't do much to stand out. I have a kilt ordered that I'll wear out and about, but its casual and modern, not a traditional one that can be dressed up.

"Well, I don't really think that the end can be assessed as of itself as being the end because what does the end feel like? It's like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe, you say, if the universe is indeed infinite, then how - what does that mean? How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you."

My sole "odd" feature is my hair ... fairly long, wild and grey'ish. I tie it back (at times) to avoid freaking out the mundanes. (read: old hippy / mad scientist ) Clothing wise? Perhaps my dutiful obsession to a lack of style. i.e. jeans and old styles cotton button shirts - sleeves rolled up. And logger boots (mainly due to bad ankles). I also rarely tie my shoes - the laces are stuffed into the boots.

what do you wear to make yourself unique in public places. Not wearing anything in public would make you fairly unique!

To me none of us look in the slightest odd or out of place.
Maybe it is due to living in London - you get all sorts here. I suppose the best way to shock people is to wear thick furs in the summer and light-coloured cotton without a coat in the winter. That would turn heads.

For work, black trousers, black waistcoat, shirt and tie. Usually worn with my oldest leather jacket. Over the winter I was wearing that plus my biker boots with this ensemble for work. When not in work, its usually a tee shirt or long sleeved top, cardigan or waistcoat, black skinny jeans/brown stripey trousers...my belt with the brass studs, sometimes a scarf especially in the winter....bikers boots and sometimes my old jacket which is dark brown by the way or my dark red leather one. Sometimes I will wear a grey corduroy or tweed cap. This is what I wear these days for everyday life. And it does transform...except for the jackets!

I don't wear things to "make myself unique". I wear what I like, and what's comfortable. If it's not what others are wearing, that's their own fault for having lousy taste.

I have a doctor who/madmen haircut which in the states being a 28year old actually makes you stand out a good bit. Not much thought is given to getting past the 18 year old bed head hair these days here.

By Dr. Who, I assume you're referring to the 11th Doctor? Few of the others have had hair cuts I would associate with Mad Men.

When I was in theatre school mumblety years ago I had a teacher who encouraged us to avoid being "precious." To her, being precious involved a lot of things we did: dressed outrageously, held picnics on the floor of the (indoor) college concourse, acted out to some extent. The thought being that wasn't who we actually were, it was doing something, or dressing some way specifically to draw attention to ourselves. I kind of took that to heart. I like seeing people all gothed up, or in full steam regalia, but that certainly isn't who I am, or how I dress. I geek out on costumes on occasion, but that's around other people dressed the same way. In public places I look like a dad dressed entirely in Old Navy clothes, albeit one with a shaved head, earrings and tattoos.
That's probably too long-winded an answer for that question, so short answer with added caveat: I never wear anything to make myself unique in public places, but in a crowd of conformity (weddings with my partner's nice yet normal extended family) I'll privately fly the freak flag with a heraldic tie, or skull and crossbones socks.
