When you've got one old crystal decanter stopper, some brass, a recently acquired lathe attachment for the drill and some hardwood there's really only one option. A replica of the Time Machine control lever (Rod Taylor). There aren't any decent images of it that I could see so it's my interpretation. Turned from hardwood and painted with acrylic paints, the brass collar was fashioned from a bit of an old candlestick and some brass sheet, the end pin was made from part of a bolt.

Your secret is safe with us sir.
Fine work btw.
Reminds me of one of my dream projects. To make a 'key' for H.G. Well's 'Time After Time' travel machine.
Ahh someday...

If you don't build the time machine, you can always plug wine bottles with it

I never thought of that, it would probably have to be a Nebuchadnezzar of champagne due to the size.

If you don't build the time machine, you can always plug wine bottles with it Plug? Wine? My dear Mr Rockwell no self respecting Gentleman ever lets a wine bottle fail to fulfill its obligation to be emptied. Mr Cooper my compliments sir, very nice lathe work.

Thank you Captain, I'm still practising with the lathe, haven't got any proper turning tools yet, need some small ones.

Thank you Captain, You are most welcome sir.
I'm still practising with the lathe, haven't got any proper turning tools yet, need some small ones. I would suggest that you look up Turners Retreat for tools and of those Pen turning tools are very handy for small scale work. Personally I'm very well practised with a lathe, I can turn anything into two things: A) Sawdust b) A Bl**dy Mess.
