Good day one and all. I have for some time now observed with considerable interest this forum and drawn immense satisfaction in doing so. The time has come to make an introduction, not so much with a bang as a whimper. Moriarty at your service. Which is a little rich given the following. In short I need your help in tracking down a most elusive brass fitting. I am seeking a brass reducer with the following : male thread at 5/8" bsp , female thread at 3/8" bsp from hexagonal bar. Not unlike this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRASS-Male-x-Female-Reducing-Bush-Taper-Type-Reducer-Fitting-Gas-Air-Water-Fuel-/250926643733Ive had little sucsses on the aetherweb and my current project has stalled without one. If anyone knows of such a thing, I would be most pleased to hear of it. Thank you and farewell for now.

How about getting an oversize-to-3/8th and having the outside threaded down? Perhaps a small eng company or college might help- you may need a time machine to find a school with a lathe though...

Thank you for your help, it does seem to be one of the more uncommon sizes. I have found one company listing said item, however they are out of stock at this time with no indication as to when they intend to restock, sadly.
Most prophectic, Darkhound: "but 5/8 to 3/8 will be difficult."
Hektor, sadly true: "you may need a time machine to find a school with a lathe though..."
Regrettably, since the total destruction of my laboratory, my ability to recut threads is alas no more and I say total destruction with a poker straight face (true story) so shop bought it will have to be as there are precious few small engineering firms locally and the bigger ones have no time for one offs.
If I can fathom the intricacies of posting an image, I will show you what I am working on, and it was going to be so so simple . . . .

It makes me want to weep when I see what's available in America, both in retail and junk, tools and materials. And don't mention the low prices. Sorry about that outburst, afraid I can't help the OP's quest.

At a push you could always get an oversized fitting and bond the connector in with JB weld or epoxy putty or indeed get an undersized one, drill it out and solder the fitting in place. If you need to be able to disassemble it you could always use one of the above methods to attach a stub of pipe to the reducing bush and use a 5/8 - 5/8 bush.

I may have some hope in the form of a pneumatic fitting which is at least A: brass, B: 5/8 (the bit that is proving so tricky) and C: cheap should things go wrong.
It would still need to lay hands on a 3/8 bsp tap and a friend has offerd the use of his little Myford so things are moving forward.
A. Pettyengineer, this one perplexes me also, the amount of times I have been foiled by vendors who won't post abroad.
Kevin, you can colour me green likewise.
Narsil, I had considered an assemblage but sadly can't generate the required heat, my little blow torch just isn't up to it and I dont know anyone with oxy acetylene bottles. I should say I prefer to use silver solder whenever possible, hence the heat issue.
Still, like any good meddler when stuck, it simply takes the next project down from the shelf and spends money on eatherbay. There's shiney goodness in the post folks. Bwahahahaha!
Thanks for your help good people.

As it so happens, I have a 3/8"BSP tap here along with an assortment of brass & bronze bar If you are close by, you'd be welcome to drop by and I'll run the tap through the middle of your fitting. (Or you could PM me to make alternative arrangements).
