I am not a Golden Compass fan but the bear is hand felted. It amazes me that someone took a ball of fluff and a needle and this was the result. (I am ignoring the cog.)
Well, at least it is a top-hat, and with a bit of work, starting with the removal of the "Dollar-store" ribbons, fluff and aforementioned bear, we could do something. Sorry, I was referring way backto this bear not to the top hat with the cheshire cat. By the way, every time someone uses the word "Cog" when they mean "Gear" or "Sprocket", Cthulhu kills a kitten Meh, I'm a dog person. |

For Clarification, when I said the bear armor "looked like crap" I mean this:
If you're trying to emulate the movies, there are no cogs on the bears.
If you're trying to "make it Steampunk" There's verbal arguments that his dark materials is a Steampunk story. Fantasy Steampunk (To differentiate from a more speculative fiction based Steampunk), but indeed a form of Steampunk. As discussed all over this forum, "gluing some gears on it" does not make it steampunk.
So because it fails in these two points, I called it crap. I have not seen a closeup of the armoring to tell you if it's a quality job or not.

It sounds like you meant to say it was inauthentic and untrue to its inspirations. Something can be beautifully made and still false. |

I happen to think this is cute, but by no means steampunk. I am beginning to think that many people believe altered art =steampunk. Necklace Pendant Unique Altered Art Steam-punk Vintage Style - Hello Missy Chirp and is it my imagination or are there less true horrors such as the first few (steampink) winners of this contest? (Seriously, will any of us truly recover from seeing that phone?) Perhaps we are having an effect. |

 Hmm. It is a necklace, I'll give it that much. I suppose it could be used as an amulet or talisman, if you really tried. Pyrite and Amazonite? Looks more like brass and amber colored resin. Long? I'll have to take their word for it, as they didn't include a measurement. Egyptian? Doubt it. Scarab Beetle? It's a Cicada, not even close. Steampunk? That's a good question. I'm thinking... no.
