I love that in the description for that it says "one of a kind," but there are at least three other listings of the exact same thing.

At 2 different prices. Cheesy

Having worked my way through this thread  I beleive we can add a new definition to  the meaning  of Steampunk.

"Any  old bits  of  crap  glued together  is Steampunk"

Hmmm...    sometimes  it might not be too  far  off the mark .?

I think that's precisely the definition we're trying to discourage.

I think  that  is  precisely the definition you have....   Just some  peoples'  aesthetics fit closer to the  unseen and  un-known design brief.

I thought this thread was supposed to be about the pink sparkly telephones and the mickey mouse watches and other in-what-universe-is-that-possibly-related-to-steampunk stuff.  That is the funny stuff.  Let's not slide back into the old well known discussions about what might be more steampunk or is bad steampunk or is almost steampunk.

Definitely not steampunk, but it is probably one of the most awesome thumb drives I've ever seen.  Grin

I'm thinking a lot of people only see the 'punk' part and then draw their own conclusions.

Something I've noticed. If you search Etsy or Ebay using the "Highest Price First" parameter, you get a much higher percentage of good Steampunk items, instead of sellers trying to cash in. Not 100%, but nearly so. It's the cheap stuff that seems to be bandwagonning on the name.

You get what you pay for, I suppose.

I feel as though, if you are going to be modeling something for the purpose of selling it, you should at least look happy about doing it.
Also, wouldn't that get...sweaty?...

OK, The first week is now over, and we have a bumper crop of steaming non-steampunkness, It is time to pick a winner for week one.
I shall list the first weeks entries below. I propose that everybody votes for one item, regardless of whether they have posted a suggestion or not. With the one condition, Nobody can vote for an item that they posted.
The winner of the first weeks competition gets to name the following weeks winner and so fourth.
I would recommend also that the winner does not post any items during the following week, in order to prevent accusations of bias.

Anyhow, here are the nominations for week 1

I'm gonna have to go with the fuzzy and sparkly phone......

I can even think up a way to make it steampunk without removing everytime that added to the phone to make it  fuzzy and sparkly.....

I am going to have nightmares....seriously....after studying John Wayne Gacy I have a phobia about clowns....eeeeeek

My vote: anything there that is pink and fuzzy.  (nearly anything else I see Steampunk potential....even if it is very distant)

My vote's on the spin art. The phone is a close second, only nudged out by the absurd price tag in the "art".

Can we give a consolation prize to the poor girl in the duct tape? She really looks like she was badgered into that picture by whoever made the bra.

I'm going to have to vote for the fuzzy pink phone.
At least the other ones seem to have some, if extremely vague, idea of what steampunk should be...

Another vote for the pink fuzzy telephone. Second choice would be the rhinestone bunny ring, and third would be the spin-art which looks like it comes from the right decade of the wrong century.
