Ladies and gentlemen: This item may not not a winner on this contest, but I'm so disgusted at seeing this that I had to place it on the list. This is one is heading the list of the 5 top reasons why I never make plastic stuff: http://www.etsy.com/listing/101647765/steampunk-compass-and-wheel-hard-iphone Made by people who just don't get it, trying to mass produce and undercut all others who also don't get it and who don't have the artistry or cultural knowledge to get it right. Thankfully they are on their way to spoiling their own market by driving the prices under the $15 mark and most likely going to the $5 range at a Walmart/ASDA or Tesco near you. The other 4 top reasons (do not enter the contest sonce these are not called "steampunk"

Now I have to ask... how on earth is that first seller taking these cases, sticking random crap on them, and selling them at around half what the manufacturer does? Switcheasy makes some very tough cases- my iPod touch would be long dead if it weren't for them. I'd hate to see some ripoff artist making low quality castings and undercutting them.

I looked at the 2 flower covers and it the details are definitely less sharp and the "matt finish" isn't. It is harder to see on the gears one but look at how the gears in the lower right fit together, not the same as the Switcheasy. That is pretty weird. But it is a hollow cube and they are square and geometric. Score 3/7.

Was it posted already, or is this one just really similar to a previous submission? (The Shadows of Memory tell me the previous one may have been brass-tone.)

Switcheasy makes some very tough cases- my iPod touch would be long dead if it weren't for them. I'd hate to see some ripoff artist making low quality castings and undercutting them. Exactly. Probably by buying dumped excess supplies from another manufacturer who just wanted to get rid of the stuff. Don't think for a minute that Chinese makers don't copy one another. I'd say once some design goes into China it comes out through several sources simultaneously legal or not. I can just hope they obviate themselves soon. If you deliberately search for 'neon steampunk' you're asking for trouble. Nothing in the world of Steampunk should be 'neon' or 'day-glo'. Those nails are the tackiest piece of cheap crap I've seen on here so far. Just...awful. Those two 'artworks' (and I use the term quite wrongly) look like the sort of pictures you seen painted by psychotic murderers when they have art classes in prison..

The only searches I've made are "Steampunk", "Steam Punk" and "Steampunk Art". You've seen the atrocities I've found. Using the words "bright" or "neon" is like trying to outrun a garden slug- no challenge. That's just me though, search as you will. I have a strong stomach.

All this talk of Chinese etsy shysters sellers reminded me of this sign I found on another forum some time ago.... perhaps 'steampunk' translates into something completely different in Mandarin? This is my submission for this week. I love the way it is labelled as Cyber, Goth, Rubber (?), Military, Steampunk or Punk, but not (Absolutely not! ) 'Cyber Dog' (just what on earth is that?)

Persons intending to travel by open carriage should select a seat with their backs to the engine, by which means they will avoid the ashes emitted therefrom, that in travelling generally, but particularly through the tunnels, prove a great annoyance; the carriage farthest from the engine will in consequence be found the most desirable.

It makes a little more sense if you assume a certain ignorance of spelling on behalf of the seller: 'Cyber Goth Rubber Tie Military Steampunk Punk Black Adjustable Knot Cyber Dog' Still ghastly though.

That still leaves the question of who or what a 'Cyber Dog' is though.... I don't see how a pre-knotted tie ties in (ha!) with those....
