So... anyone want to remix that video and give it a nice classical soundtrack?

I liked the way the machine was built up, right at the beginning.  Loved the lips with just machinery behind it for example.  The rest of it is a bit predictable.  Bit of sex, rearing horse, glimpses of frilly skirts, naked people without the correct anatomical bits - because if it sells in the USA to get the biggest market, they would have objected.  *Yawn.*
Yes, we have some seriously messed up priorities over here. Don't ask me why.

Y'know I don't really follow the charts, and I'm used to things like this disappearing in total obscurity. But it looks like this one actually did pretty well.

I will give the director credit for the fact that he did actually acknowledge Steampunk was the inspiration for (at least parts) of this video. A lot of artists recently have just used the aesthetic without ever once even mentioning the name (I'm looking at you Panic At The Disco). Obviously Bieber's just clueless in general so I would've expected nothing from him. Still this may actually have helped to spread awareness a little, and as long as they do that I don't really mind (within reasonably sane limits) who uses it.

Interesting you mention that. I thought it would be great with Karl Jenkins' "Raindance". Unfortunately, I don't have what software it takes to remix and resoundtrack it. But if you play the two together, they look kind of cool.

Start the video at about :07-:08 into this; it works splendidly:

I'm all for the growth of steampunk. I want to see more and more people intrested in it, but i still maintain that i don't want to see it grow like this...this video, as well as the Beiber "thing"  are just some crappy pop stars using somthing that is popular because they have no actual talent and if people listened to the music without the video with it then people would realize this fact. Like i said, i would love to see steampunk grow, and i loved things like the steampunk episode of the show Castle as well as seeing steampunk start to push it's whay into other relms (recently i was at a renn faire where a clothing maker was selling steampunk clothing that she had made as well as traditional garb for a renn faire, and it was like SUPER nice clothing too)

ohh and im sorry in advance if im coming off like a steam-snob

You aren't.  You like what you like.  Nothing wrong with that, is there?

Some idea person saw an awesome concept (Steampunk) and wanted to use it because it was...awesome.  I'm talking the designers of the videos, not necessarily the artists.  What they made out of it may not qualify as straight-up Steampunk and "Steampunk" may prefer other uses, but somebody might see it and go "aha", do a little research and end up Steamy.

This is true. I guess in a way it is "steampunk gone mainstream", as in its now a film/video 'theme' just like 1950's tv, old western, or ancient Egyptian.

I personally think it's not steampunk-looking for me: it definetly was not intended to be a steampunk clip though it can vaguely resemble the genre. There are certain elements that recall sci-fi and gothic culture, but that's all....(no steam  Cry sigh...)
