i was at a hobbytown usa store getting paints to do a repaint of a maverick i got when i came across the gun used in the picture there. its an XT-8 air power pump action gun made by the company Poof. i purchased one and will be doing a repaint of it sometime in the future. i looked online but couldn't find any pictures or infomation on it, though.
Fantastic. I had no Idea all the parts went together for that gun. They were in parts in a box. I just put together what I thought looked right. I will have to find more. thank you!!!!!

A quick search of Google came up with one listed on Amazon. Listed as RX XT8 Multi Shooter Dart Launcher. Price: $11.19 http://www.amazon.com/XT8-Multi-Shooter-Dart-Launcher/dp/B0006O6YOG Looks like mine was missing the top red thing. Hmmm. And the parts on mine were blue...I think...

I am attempting to paint a gun i found, and have discovered that i have absolutely no artistic skills with any medium except for basic spray paints. It would be great if you guys could suggest paints to use/how i would actually do the painting without getting the paint where i don't want it...
thanks

Basic modelling acrylics do nicely. Look out for Humbrol or Revell, or go to Games Workshop where you can buy their rather expensive paints, but they also have a good range. To avoid painting certain areas you can use masking tape. To get a sort of metal effect, base coat it black then use an effect called Dry brushing, where you put the silver paint on a brush, wipe off excess, then get some kitchen towel and brush it on to the towel until you have just a bare minimum on the brush. Then lightly brush it over the black, catching any raised areas and also large surfaces.

another useful tip that i believe Mr. Guyver mentioned is to sand the whole of the item prior to painting. this will make the paint stick better onto the plastic and also will make the texture more interesting.
And to Mr. Guyver, i was just looking through your guns again and realized that i've seen many of them in stores but left them on the shelves, assuming they have no potential. It nice to see that i am oft wrong, and inspiring for me to try new things.

about the most important skill in painting is patience.
fill in the screw holes and sand them flat, or just a dab of hot glue and a screw in the hole so it looks like a flush mount screw thats supposed to be there. scrape and sand seam lines
a light sanding, a light primer coat, and a touch up sanding to prep the work.
make sure its good and DRY.
if all you got is spray paint then you will need to mask off areas for painting. pick your main color and spray it first before any masking. spray the hard to reach spots first, try not to get runs or lay down too much paint. keep your distance and spray light coats. follow the directions on re-coating to the LETTER. let it dry well before masking for the next color. depending on the paint that could be days!
when masking don't push the tape down completely, just push down the edge that youre cutting into the new paint. that way you wont spend all day picking it loose. use paper under the trailing edge of the tape , to protect the rest from overspray. spray lightly and as dry as possible to keep the second color from wicking under the masking and bleeding into the old paint.
if you're not sure about compatibility of paints, practice on a plastic pop bottle! primer it first just like the gun. some paints that do fine being overpainted will still pickle up if you sand on it before spraying the next color, test that to see if it will be a problem. if two paints seem to be incompatible, try reversing the order you paint them
good masking tape makes for a good paint job, crappy tape makes for a crappy job, its that simple.
if things seem to be acting up, just set it down for a few days, let it dry! if you keep fudging with it, it will just get worse.
as for details, there's drybrushing, there's blackwashes too. mr. guyver has a nice system he uses. you should follow his lead there!

Inks are a fine addition to the paint. Do your usual stuff - base coat and one coat of drybrush - then apply the ink to the whole of it and wipe with a clean kitchen towel. After that, apply another coat of drybrush. Adds a special depth to the paintjob. I always have that pot of Games Workshop's Chestnut Ink ready when going for an aged metal finish.

Because of the popularity of my old "Rocketman" post I figured I would bring this back up to the top so folks can take a look or take a second look at some of my older stuff.

I LOVE seeing others works. I get inspired and I always feel like others make me have to work harder to make my stuff look even 1/3 as good as what others post. Fantastic works, Good Sir!
