Righty-ho, Rather than continue to dribble photos onto the 'collective thread' I will run a thread on this gun build. The motive - I need a Rather Big Gun for a steampunk exhibition later in the year. The beginning. A nice old rifle stock with clips for the sling still attached. Now the basic parts I begin the build with. I am adding an old Rega pump sprayer, and a Rega stirrup pump, these two units use the same thread so they come together well. I have added a brass pressure gauge to the rear of the brass Rega sprayer canister, it fits like a glove. I am using old brass valves and other bits to create some plumbing detail where possible. So far so good - not too much modding to the rifle stock to take the brass parts, and I can use the pump sprayer trigger to make the gun trigger. More as it evolves.

Nice start to a nice gun.
Looks like it will end up being rather heavy.

Mad Uncle your very nice gun has been upstaged by a tubing bender. Tough act to follow.

The tube bender is for use mostly with boats, I think, so probably only useful for really big builds! As for all the small, fiddly brass & copper tubes for smaller builds, is there a tube bender small enough, or could you use a jewellers wire bending form?

For small tube I use solid rod, no problems with tube kinking that way.

Not really, the small diameter hobby shop brass rod can be bent cold by hand, I normally grip it in a vice at the bend point and tap it with a hammer to bend it.

Crikey - I only started it last Saturday, give me another couple of weeks to get it to the 'basically done' stage and then allow me the rest ofthe year to work through the 'always adding one more bit' stage and then it might be finished.

Back in the days of WWI, local governments in Oz went a bit peculiar about towns with German names, so they promptly went around changing them all to suitably 'English' ones: Germantown became Holbrook (WWI Submarine captain ace with a VC - English, of course - Australians weren't considered bright enough to captain their own ships, in the main) for example. but they forgot that Adelaide had been named after a German princess!
