Well it's that time again...

Our now annual pilgrimage to Alton towers. This year is extra special as it'll be just after my 40th birthday

They have a new ride for this year. I just saw an ad for it on't telly. Nemesis Sub Terra... Sounds interesting.

Traditionally, it's at the end of June around the 20th (or thereabouts, as it's pretty much a movable feast). One thing that we normally do is have it during the week as weekend excursions are like football matches.

I'm proposing somewhere between the 18th and 22nd. After that, schools break up and even weekday excursions will be a nightmare.

So, who's in?

What a silly question.

From what information I have found I get the impression that Nemesis Sub Terra is a short duration 'vertical drop' ride, with an atmospheric and entertaining loooong queuing system.

I guess it's time to start looking for the 'Two-For-One' vouchers again.

Tentative yes from me and LYM, just to see you all scream on rides! Depends on a few things, but it's likely we'll be there!

Id love to join but already going next month. Just thought I'd post to let you know WH Smith are doing the 2 for 1's at the mo. When you buy something they give you the vouchers... or they were dong at the weekend anyhow.

Sub terra apparently is going to have age restrictions on it because its scary oooooOOOOOooooo

Bugger! Just had a chat with her ladyshiP about this and realised that she's on nights that week. So, it would have to be the week before or after.

Hope so! Be nice to get on the rides this year (altho I was quite pleased with some of the photies I took last year, and enjoyed ugling them.)

Ah... Possibilities abound..

Alton Towers is literally just a stone's throw from my abode and I may well be able to attend.  If you firm up the dates then please let me know as I would surely like to pop along.

Fair skies!

Sorry, SBM, your post slipped by unnoticed.

After speaking with a few parties, I think that we need to set a date for this if it is to go ahead.

Seeing as it's my 40th that day. I have chosen the 14th of June. I know her ladyship is available as am I having secured the time off at the beginning of the year.

So... crunch time, who's in? copy and paste onto the end of your post and add your name if you feel like coming...

We both happen to have that day off :-D

Is it worth creating an event on the book of face - Scott reckons we got a good increase in numbers from there last year.

Hi All,

Book of faces event has now been created.

It can be found here for those of you with accounts.

Please note that this is not an open event and while I have no objections to you inviting anyone you see fit, I would ask that people who are invited are at least a part of the steampunk community and know what the scene is about rather than just inviting your whole friend list.

Just a quick reminder for all of those who said that they would be coming to the lofty towers of Alton on the 14th.

You can get a 2 for 1 voucher , but I (and I know a few other people who) will be sorting out the 40% off offer through the Alton Towers website. This does mean that you can get into the park an hour earlier. Admittedly, it's not quite half price, but for that extra hour grace on the rides, I figured it would be worth it.

So we will be meeting at 8.45am at the latest at the entrance to the monorail station (as usual). This means that we can get into the park at 9am and maximise the amount of time on t' throw up rides. Myself and her ladyship will try our best to get there by 8.30 to receive the early birds.

The park normally opens at 10am and for those of you that don't want to get there that early, we can meet up later on and if you do want to do it that way, I can PM you my mobile number so you can contact me and find out where we are to arrange a meet-up when you do arrive. Either that or make sure that you have the mobile number of someone in the advanced guard.

I'll be posting this info on the FB event page too.

Definitely looking forward to it this year as I will be 40 that day.  Grin

Despite disregarding all principles and (sort of) setting up a facebook presence, it still won't let me look at the page for this event.

Any idea how many are likely to be along for the fun?

The Memsahib and I will be joining the Early Invasion—see you about 08:45-ish.

Brilliant news captain. We'll see you bright eyed and bushy tailed in the morning then. No idea who is coming now, but suffice to say if you are joining the second group coming in for 10am, text me or someone else in the party for details of where we are. Or just follow the trail of bemused chavs.
