Welcome once again, fellow Brass Gogglers, to yet another Gentleman's Challenge!

The entries for the last contest were all superb, but they made me feel real glad I wasn't actually participating myself, for whatever I could come up with would be little more than a shadow of the fine entries we have seen! Excellent workmanship, great designs, good choice of materials, etc. I don't think I could top any of those creations.. and I'm guessing there are more people on this fine forum who feel the same way..

So this round is for the rest of us! A tiny challenge anyone can join!

Da Rules, Tiny Challenge Edition:

  • The Tiny Challenge is for Tiny projects - As a guideline, try to keep them Rubik's Cube size or smaller. (2 inch or 50mm cubed)
  • All projects must have an equally tiny budget. Try to keep the total budget under $/£/€5.
  • Can I use this 5 carat diamond I just so happen to have laying about my workshop? Sure you could, but it would kind of defeat the purpose of the tiny challenge. So then ammend the previous rule to: you ought to be willing to part with your creation if someone were to offer you $/£/€5 for it!
  • You do not have to be a gentleman to enter this challenge. Scallywags and Ladies allowed.
  • You must post in this thread that you are participating to be counted in the challenge.
  • You may use what ever tools to build your creation that are at your disposal. Ie: jackhammer, glue, TNT, screwdriver (sonic or not), etc.
  • Challenge closes April 30th.
  • Pictures of the finished creation must be posted on the finishing day by midnight your time.
  • A winner will be selected by popular vote after the deadline has passed.
  • Have Fun!!

I would like to enter.  I want to build an inclinometer for my new submarine workshop.  It's a simple device that shows if the ship is tilting to port or starboard.  You can see one in this picture in the far upper left.

Here is another one.

Two questions.
Is this project tiny enough to fit in within the rules?
And should I post progress pictures here in this thread or in my new workshop thread?

It's tiny enough if you can make it tiny enough.. Grin

And I don't think people would mind a little bit of cross-posting pics, so you decide, it can be either here, or in the other threa,d or both if you like Smiley

Ooops.     Nevermind.
I jusr re-read the rules.  It has to be somewhere around 2 inches.
Sorry for my error.  I'm out of this challenge.

hmmm.... I have an idea but I think the arms and legs of that idea would make it bigger
than you are thinking....

Official ruling please?

If the 'body' fits the size restrictions but the 'arms and legs' would be outside
the size requirement does it still work?

Or do I need to think smaller?

Tiny Steampunk - that would appear to be right up my cobbled street.
I've been far too busy for far too long, and have been not much more than a voyeur on this finely crafted forum for quite some time. Time to finish the current locket commission and get creative again. Consider my top hat well and truly in the ring, so to speak.
Timing is also quite good since I have just celebrated 5 years of Brass Goggle membership - where the hell did that go!
Right, to the planning room....

Count me in. I have a couple of ideas already.

I thought Rubik cubes were bigger than that...

I hate asking dumb questions, but it may as well be asked....what if it is something designed to be bigger than a Rubik's cube, but can be folded (rolled, etc) to fit into the size of one?

Oooh!  Oooh!  (Hand in air) I've got a couple of questions.

1. Is 30th April the deadline to enter the Challenge, or the deadline for completion?
2. Does it have to be a new creation, or can I enter something already created by me?
3. Can more than one item be entered per person?
(One 'could' create a fake account to enter a second or third item.)

Nevermind. I've got two ideas that are smaller than the idea I was asking about....

I always thought a Rubik's Cube was 3" square. Either way, I am definitely in.  Got the idea, now to begin construction!
