Following along the lines of Fantasy Football etc... Who would you like to have round your table for the ultimate dinner party?
I would have...
Peter Ustinov - an excellent raconteur
Stephen Fry - for the same reason.
Arthur Conan Doyle - the stories he could tell.
and the ladies...
Madeline Khan - SO funny
Anne Widdecombe - guaranteed to keep things in order
Bettany Hughes - an excellent historian.

This is fantasy, so even fictional characters could be invited.

In the jungle town where the sun beats down to the rage of man and beast
The English garb of the English sahib mearly gets a bit more creased.
In Bangkok at 12 o'clock they foam at the mouth and run
But mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the mid-day sun.

could i have anyone? ANYONE?
Cheesy
ok,

Stephen Fry - for the same reason as yours!
The Joker - as creepy as that sounds there would be plenty of interesting stories (as long as he didn't try to kill anyone)
Douglas Addams - oh my sides would ache.
The doctor - from Doctor Who.

and the ladies...

Amanda Palmer - my favourite singer, she could help with the music.
my best friend - because its necessary.
Marilyn Monroe
and probably Debbie Reynolds. Smiley

Hokkayyy:

Ismbard Kingdom Brunel - The god of victorian engineering.
Winston Churchill - The elder statesman.
Fred Dibnah - Down to earth steeple jack.

Nancy Blackett - Amazon pirate, master and part-owner of the Amazon, the Terror of the Seas!
Helena Bonham Carter - A fine actress and C.B.E. no less.
Modestey Blaise - A much better looking secret agent.

Hosts - Myself and my Good Lady!!

It would be interesting to see by the time it came to the end of the evening who had paired off with who!

We are the BEC,
And this we must confess,
Whatever is worth doing,
We'll do it to excess!

If I had a big enough table, Winston Churchill and Helena Bonham-Carter would be on my list as well.
Not forgetting my co-host Captain S. Bellinger R.A.M.E (Rtd.)

I think about this a lot, and it is difficult for me. I think one of the problems is that there is a difference between people who are interesting to study and read about, and people who you would actually enjoy talking to and hanging out with.

Oh I like this board!
Ok......
For the fellas....
Edgar Allen Poe - obvious reasons
Walt Whitman - obvious reasons
Philadelphia's favorite son Benjamin Franklin - the stories he could tell AND may I add, he was a ladies man!
Vincent Van Gogh - if I lived in his time, I would have stalked him......kindly remember they did not have anistalker laws back then.
Pablo Picasso - because he is a bastard and every circle of friends needs one
Tom Wolfe - because he is my most favorite Dandy.

Now for the ladies.....
Helena Bonham Carter - because she would bring Tim Burton and I love him
Madam Curie - we need a chemist, look who is coming for Pete's sake!  Just kidding!  Cheesy she is cool.
Georgia O'Keefe - So cool!  Love her!
Frida Kahlo - So cool!  Love her.... She is not allowed to bring Diego

Lyra silvertongue and will parry. I'd order dinner in, make whatever wish that makes the people come to dinner, say hello and leave them alone, then maybe listen to their stories if they don't mind too much lol.
