Finishing the Inclinometer.

Break out the alphabet soup again.

I added a few gizmos I have laying about.  And add some round metal pieces.

I need it to hang from the ceiling.  (Oh, I mean I need to attach it to the bottom of the upper deck.)

And this is the almost finished product.

I think it needed a little something more.  Mermaids, I love mermaids...........

Add a little paint and weathering, and walla !

I'm not sure I like the pointer being the same color as the rest of it.
We'll see how it looks in the finished room.

Well done! Geez, you gotta stop doing stuff like this. I can't afford to be this giddy this early in the morning. May I suggest an enameled black for the pointer?

Bloody brilliant stuff, sir! But I believe it would be attached to the bulkhead?

Yeah, that gives me an idea.  My next project will be to build another man cave.  This time I'll decorate it like the inside of a Peterbilt 359 cab.....  LOL

Where would you put those? On the aft diving planes?

Well, building the inclinometer was so much fun that I find I really miss model building.  So I thought I'd keep building details for the workshop and take a break from the heavier room building and painting.

I want to include an armory in the submarine room.  So a few weeks ago I purchased a couple of guns.  I'm going to attempt to build both guns at the same time.  Gun number one is a pirates' pistol.  Gun number 2 is a pirates' blunderbus.

Gun number one.  I disassembled it and using three colors I painted it to look like wood.

I think I'll do this first gun as a steampunk special.

Gun number 2.  This gun is an un-built kit.  I want to do this gun as a stock gun.

I have this idea that if I put masking tape on the gun I can get an interesting weathered wood look.  Or something like wood.  I painted brown over the tape and then rubbed some of it off, in places.  Here is the trial effort.  It looks like it might work.  Interesting effect.

I stripped off the trial tape and sprayed the gun with rust color primer.

MORE TOMORROW..................

As soon as I finish these guns I’ll get back to painting the inside of my Submarine room.

The steampunk pistol is finished.

I painted the metal parts.  I modified a sight and added it to the pistol.

I wanted to update the flint / spark mechanism.  I created a power module from misc. junk I had.

I wired it to the hammer.

Then I built a spark accelerator cell.

Here's the completed weapon.

Now if my submarine can't dive under the water, at least I have some protection from pirates.

I made some progress on the blunderbus.  This should be finished tomorrow.

Added masking tape.

Painted with two shades of brown and a tiny bit of black.
I like the look, but I'm not sure why.  It kind of looks like wood, but not really.
It looks really good from across the room.  But so do lots of things.......  LOL

OK, the blunderbus is finished.

I painted the parts that are supposed to be metal with gray, black wash then blue green patina.

I added a little more patina after the metal parts were installed.

Finished and ready for service..............

Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

I made a cover plate for the imaginary access hole.  Just to add some interest.

Now I need to apply the sealer before I paint; just like I did for the outside of the room.
Here is what the room looks like so far.

I've been thinking you need some access panels to hide that stowage space above the deck...

Yes I keep thinking about how to cover that space.  I need to take boxes in and out from time to time.  I'm thinking about a curtain.  The space is 15 inches tall and runs the whole length of the room.  And I have very little money left.  And I want to move into the room soon.  So I might cover up the space after I finish everything else.  I'm open to any ideas.

Don't submarines (past & present) have curtained-off bunk areas for crew? It could be a bit tricky if that open area is outside the sub Grin, though. Perhaps sliding bulkheads that look like the regular outside of the sub??

Cut concrete form tubes in half and put hinges on the lower side

I wonder if you could do something similar to this for a water effect
outside your round window....

Professor Cogsworthy, that is a very cool idea! Would look suitably nautical, especially if dripping rust!

I've just gone through this whole thread and now I've picked my jaw up off the floor I have to say..if you're still looking for a name for your sub, how about The S.S. Bloody Awesome?

Looking brilliant as always Captain, and nice paint job on the blunderbuss by the way.

I think you've just broken the record for the most number of rivets I've seem in my life!

If I may make a suggestion, if you don't want to just do access panels to cover the storage space you could make a row of something akin to vents or grills, although I'm not sure how that would fair on the exterior of the submarine.

That would work. I've seen pics of subs with a row of drainage ports between the upper casing and the pressure hull. Here's a half-decent shot of Kriegsmarine U-25:

Navy or muddy green canvas remnants fitted with grommets at the top like a curtain.  String any old rope up on hooks as the curtain rod?  That would be somewhat nautical...maybe too sailboat-ish, though.

Or attach some velcro to fabric and ceiling for a cheaper, streamlined look.

That is the sort of thing I was thinking of, although I think you put it in a much better way than I did.

Some sort of drainage vents, possibly with suitable dribble stains coming out of them, and hinged so they can be lifted out of the way to access the storage space.

Bunks in a modern sub would have a curtain to draw to provide limited privacy for the sleeper.  Label the area as sailors bunks.

Prof Cogsworthy:  Your pipe idea is great.  That would look nice.  But it might be too much in the way of conveniently storing boxes.
That water effect would be perfect !!  I will look into finding something like that.  Thanks.

Capt. Viscount:  Grill and vents are a perfect idea !!   Standby.

Mrs Whatsit:  I was always headed towards the curtain idea.  But you just gave me a better idea when you mentioned Velcro.  Velcro! I had forgotten about Velcro.  What a great idea !!
My current plan is to make some sort of grill or vent out of light material and Velcro them up to cover the space.  Perfect !  But I will not finish this until the room is finished.

Thank you all……
