This was found at an amazing estate sale at one of the oldest ranch houses, owned by an old ranching family in the Jeff Davis County, Texas. It was being offered at a steal and was in great condition. A bit of cleaning and look at the state of the ribbon is in order:

Thank you. I paid 50 dollars for it. On ebay I saw it, in varying states, the cheapest being nowhere's close to mine costing just over 100. Ones that appeared to be in the same state were near abouts 300-500 dollars. Then there was one that was a few (I think over 3) thousand. I am looking forward to finally cleaning this thing, probably this week. I've been far too congested, nearing a cold, to be working with that dust this past week.

You might have better luck with an Underwood style typewriter, say Model 5. Apparently these were a very common typewriter to have which makes it very likely that you will find one for a more affordable price (I found this out after seeing one of these Underwood's on display at a Cracker Barrel). There is a chance that on e-bay they were asking much more than they should have. After a bit of research it would seem that 500 bucks is certainly on the high end of what one would pay for a typewriter such as mine. The 50 to 100 range is more appropriate. If you can, keep your ear to the ground for estate sales, sales held at old churches and such. Those are the types of places that I've found the best bargains on the old stuff I've been collecting. Good luck on your typewriter hunt. Also, thanks for the good wishes. It seems however that my lungs are not done purging this plague. I'm beginning to feel like Doc Holliday. As if I've got consumption with this heavy cough of mine. I promise new photos soon though.

Greatescaper,
I just bought one of these (Remington Standard #10) yesterday. I've fixed a few problems with it, but the carriage still doesn't move. Would you be able to provide close-up pics of the side and back for me to confirm what is missing? There are no pictures, that I can find, on the Internet of the connective bits you can see from the front and back. I found a great PDF manual, but the 1909 drafting isn't the best for 3d/internals.
Appreciate any help.
Cheers.
