so basically you want something that fits in the palm of your hand that with a simple poke into a usb port allows you to boot your own computer on any machine anywhere and give you complete admin access?

No. That I have. Ubuntu even has a function that creates such a device for you with one click.

What I wan't is a way to install and setup a dualboot system from scratch, using only one usb drive and have it all be one single process, rather than having to install each OS separately.
In a perfect world, it would also find and install the latest motherboard and graphics card drivers on it's own.

Making any OS boot or install from usb, is simple. The difficult part is getting multiple OS's to do so at the same time.

That sounds like something I tried to kludge together myself sometime ago. The basic idea is sound, but the way OSs are expected / required to install is what causes the issues.  Undecided

In my attempt, I tried a workaround that should work properly in theory, but I don't know enough about Linux, scripting and coding to pull it off. Basically I tried to use the Windows XP pre-install environment (which was also used for things like Bart PE...), The idea being I could use this to automate the full windows installation, prepare the drives etc. That much sort of worked.
The Linux side of things, I tried a similar trick, and used a modified version of Knopix which installed to the hard drive (copied over as part of the XP PE setup). It basically worked as proof of concept, but that's as far as I got.  Undecided

Another way would be to use someting like the XP PE, and run a virtual machine that will allow you to build a complete install for each OS (setup for 'yes' to all defaults), then dump the contents of these builds onto the hardrive in their respective partitions. In theory it should work... Obviously it's not as simple as that, but doable.

If you can figure out how to get this to work properly, you would have a damned usefull tool!

Things just keep getting better and better. Got sacked from my job of sixteen years tonight due to my own stupidity. Its been so long since I've been in the job market that I don't even know where or how to start.  Depression, here I come.

If that weren't bad enough, these blood pressure meds I'm on are really messing up my stomach.

Its probably a good thing I'm not a drinker or the suicidal type. Sad

Just had the landlord of my Cardiff Steampunk Market on the phone. Some muppets went in last week and discussed the fact they were intending to bring weapons in, without reassuring the landlord they were toy/fantasy weapons. I now have to email the chain owner with our exact intentions for the weekend and what they can expect. I hope this means we haven't lost our venue, as we certainly won't get another one for free on Olympic Weekend. I am severely pissed off.

It surely will. And if I get it to work as currently outlined, I will see if I can't  also add RAID setup and configuration to the mix.

That would be pretty epic  Grin

I am, for the umpteenth time recently, very depressed because of some very trivial slights against me. I know they're trivial. I know that the persons involved didn't mean to slight me. But its still gotten under my skin and made me irritated and depressed. WTF?! I thought I had conquered my depression a while ago. It was leaving me alone, the world was mostly good, and now all of a sudden its coming back for absolutely no reason. Literally, there are not serious problems in my life for me to be upset over. Nothing at all. Its pathetic. So now, in addition to being depressed over this perceived "exclusion", I am upset with myself for being so petty. Ugh.

The exact same thing happens to me a lot as well. It happens less often and less dramatically than it used to, but it still happens from time to time. I get really depressed over things that are relatively insigificant, then I feel guilty for being unhappy because I have so little to be so unhappy about.

Can I just quote Stephen Fry for you:
`  "I`ve got enough money, I`ve got a job, people like me - there`s no reason to be depressed." That`s as stupid as saying there`s no reason to have asthma, or there`s no reason to have measles. It`s not about reason.`
Besides, if you`re not allowed to feel bad/depressed because other people have it worse, then are you also not allowed to be happy because other people have it better?

I`m personally just having a bad day today. Most of the time I do actually feel pretty good, and I`m okay with how I look and everything, but some days I just feel ugly and fat and useless and unloved and I get annoyed by everything and anyone, and today is one of those days.

It gets worse considering that I`m over-sensitive to some sounds on good days, let alone on bad days like this one, and this is also the day my housemate (the one in the room right next to mine) has decided to go on Skype for ages, and she 1)always turns up the volume really loud and 2)talks very loudly herself as well. The past two days she also watched a horror movie at about 9.30 am, and she turns up the volume of that really loud as well.

That's why I went for full volume for a year. The slight deafness has worked wonders Cheesy
I live in a house with an exceptionally loud mother. Most of my conversations with her go like this:
Mum - SOMETHING SOMETHING SOMETHING
Me - Mum, I'm right here...

I got the same gene though, I'm excessively loud half the time. Good for music. Bad for sociability.

My personal Gah is my band's DJ. He just doesn't come across as committed. He's brilliant at what he does, especially considering he's only 17 (almost 18) but while the guitarist and I are flat-out serious about making the music we're envisioning he just doesn't make an effort to be there for practices etc. We're now at the point where we have a perfect drummer lined up but need a demo, for which we'll need our DJ, before we can get him to join. The guitarist is desperately trying to keep this drummer interested while we fxck about trying to get this DJ to come and practice with us.

Thing is, every time he has played with us he's come across as genuinely thrilled with the music and really into playing in the band. It's just, we sacrifice sleep and good health every weekend to make practice no matter what we've done the night before etc and he won't even come along the day after his ball (when the guitarist made it the day after his ball having also had his 18th the night before that).

As do I.

I am overly sensitive today because exactly a year ago my mom died.  Working two jobs just above minimum wage, I don't have much time to do the things I love.  Today is my only day off this week and I ended up sleeping most it away due to not getting much sleep when I work.  (so really not much time to work on stuff)  On top of that my future mother-in-law went in for an exploratory surgery, she just got out and told my fiance that they need to talk when she gets home....that sort of thing scares the crap out of me.

For the last three consecutive days I've  done the work of 3 people at my new job. Because apparently, I am efficient. Today I even tried not to be and was given more work on request, all it did was result in me doing more work and running rings around my work mates.

Exactly. I'm knackered. I do however, seem to be making myself stand out enough to hopefully get a few more hours, which means a few more pennies, which I can spend on chasing the things/people I love.

I went today to a "hiring event" for a new store opening in our area. I have been waiting for this interview for months, applied online as well as filling out a paper app. My grown daughter applied as well... Guess who got called for a second interview, and who got told to wait for a phone call? GAAAAARRRRRGGHH! I really would love to work at this store. Cry

That's a mixed bag. New stores always over hire. Think of it like this:
10 out of a hundred don't actually want to work, just get paid. A new opening store is lots of crazy work and they'll filter themselves out while doing some of the set up work.
10 out of the remaining 90 will try to do everything they can to keep up but they just can't handle that level of madness and they'll burn out.
10 out of the 80 will bust their butts and get things set up and ready to go but will start the drama that happens in these places. Nobody else works as hard as they do, did you see that one lazy girl who's always ... and they will end up with nobody backing them up and alienating themselves until they "Are not a team player." and let go.
Then the store opens and it's a mad house for the first two weeks.
10 out of the seventy employees will have to call out at some point or get hurt and limit their usefulness.
10 out of the sixty left will accumulate minor infractions to the point of being let go (cell phone texting while working, taking a long break ect, do it enough and they'll get ya for it)
10 more will burn out covering the extra work that is around now that half the people are gone.
Then about a month and a half after grand opening the customers die down and settles into regular retail mode. In response everybodies hours get cut.
10 will leave because they can't live on the wages gained for 12 hours a week.
And then the store managers look to see who is left and minimises conflict be still manages to have rivalry enough to compete and keep productivity up so that complacence isn't an issue. They staff the shift as minimally as they can and let everyone else go.

So honestly I'd say a new store is temp work with a twenty five percent chance of becoming permenant part time work.

Leastways that's been my experiance. Your milage may vary.

I'm really sorry it didn't work out. That's got to be frustrating. I hate to think how discouraged I'd be in your shoes.

Still hoping I don't have to go job hunting soon. After 16 years, I've no idea how to even start.

It seems I did something to upset my housemate again. I can`t help it - I`m oversensitive to some sounds, she appears to be deaf and thus turns up the volume really loud, and all I did was mention to another housemate, in the course of a conversation, how it prevented me from learning the speeches I have to record, but that it`s okay, because I usually do the learning/recording part when nobody`s at home anyway. She knows that if it really bothers me, I do actually ask her to turn the volume down. I`ve done it before.

But no, she`s being all silent and awkward and everything, seemingly avoiding me.

I`m kind of just assuming the sheer amount of medicines she`s currently taking is playing a huge part in this, plus other circumstances.

Really though, I`m working on the last bits of school (the speeches recordings really are a pain in the ****) so I can graduate in 2 weeks, I`m constantly looking for a job, I really don`t feel much for added drama on top of that.

That seems to be happening in a lot of places. I put it down to cost-cutting. They know they're getting someone to do a manager's-worth of work without having to pay them a manager's wage... My mum is having the same problem at her work right now, only she's so busy doing what she normally does, the new stuff and the stuff of her new boss (who is useless I hear) that she can't cover the arses of all her co-workers (like the last boss did) so it's actually coming to light that everyone is useless.

My personal Gah is I had an argument with my sister today. I've had arguments over far more important things with her before but for some reason this one, though brief and since apologised for, brought me right to the peak of my anger. I'm a tad disappointed at myself. And the thing was, it wasn't even used in a productive way, there's still unaddressed problems that will likely cause further arguments, only they'll happen when mum is home again (and able to needlessly take my sister's side)

In the Countess' case it's simply because the owner of the company simply doesn't give a sh!t. His staff should have protective clothing but he won't supply them. They have to buy their own. Their work enviroment is a rat infested sweat box in the summer and leaky refrigerator in winter. They're yard is broken into a dozen times a year but he won't pay out for CCTV cameras or up the security. The yard has no lighting so in the winter it's pitch black and staff have to find their way to their cars by torch light. And to rub salt in the wound he often takes 'potential clients' out on pheasant/grouse shooting days..or to Wimbledon..or to polo matches. He'll happily spend £25-30k buttering up these nobs but won't  give his staff a decent wage or any pay increases despite working long hours and doing several people's jobs. He often gives the Countess a bottle of Vodka as a 'thank you' which she refuses saying "I can't pay my mortgage with Vodka!!"
I've told her that one phonecall to the Dept of Employment would get the place closed down until the  proper upgrades are made but she says her boss would refuse to do it and then she and all the other staff are out of a job. Her boss doesn't need the company..he's loaded anyway..

Sounds like the place I worked.  The owners seem to be doing everything they can to run the place into the ground. Or maybe they really are broke, I don't know. But the place is seriously under-staffed and the building is practically falling apart from lack of maintenance.
But its not my problem anymore, since I found out I won't be getting my job back today. So now what? I haven't had to search for work in over 16 years. I'm old, and the economy sucks. I don't even know where to start and all I can do is lie in bed shivering with imagined chills, and just trying not to think. Thankfully I have money to cover my rent for several months. but I know that'll run out eventually.
My best friend thinks I should make a go at making a living with my art. But I don't know. That seems such a risky proposition. I'm not sure I even have the passion for it, especially since so many others are better than me. So for now, I'm just lost in depression.
