Still no benefit in my bank account this morning. I phoned the Benefits people and they said they had no 'sick note'. In a pigs ear, I sent them one weeks ago, and I know they have received it for reasons I won't go into here.

So. The woman who took my call used her brains, and phoned my Doctor. 'Fine Sir, your benefit will be paid into your account by 5 o clock today'.

Now why hadn't somebody done this before? Are they playing 'Good cop bad cop' with me?

I am on the point of having to borrow again from family to live on, it's good that they are willing to support me, but I should not be having to do this. Not everybody has a supportive family or friends.

I have, according to my doctor's papers, been classified as disabled, due to my clinical depression and related issues. In other words, that means that I can't get any job at all, unless it's one of those jobs that aims at disabled people. (Cross my heart, it is not meant in a derogatory manner, this country just sucks when it comes to disabled people)

On the other hand, due to my classification, I'm not eligible for any kind of disabled support. Because I'm "the wrong class of disabled".

Shoot me.

I have a second interview for a job today... at three hours before wake up. which means to get ready I have to be awake five and a half hours minimum before I usually wake up. So I try to get to sleep early. Anyone wanna guess when the most recent bout of insomnia I've had occured?

Oh an for the third time this week food has jammbed up under the gum between two molars. It  Lips sealed hurts!

I'm going to be sooo tired at the interview. It will be 19hours since I woke and I'm still a week behind in my sleep as it is, and overcoming a cold too. Then after the second interview, I've got four hours of nothing before another interview in the same town. So I can drive home eat something and nap for a half hour before driving back, or slog my exhausted butt around doing nothing in town for 4 hours and go to the second meeting. Drag my sorry butt back here and crash for an extra long sleep which will more than likely make me very sick the next day when I wake up.

In all likelyhood it means I'll miss some volunteer work I could be doing and some social networking. so basically this is a big  Lips sealed you for the rest of my week.

Might be worth just getting a cheap one. I've seen them on sale for as low as about $30-40 for an ink jet, if that gets you going.

University, again.
I have nothing to do, no-one will even give me work to do to keep me quiet (my old college tutor used to do that) and no-one will listen to me. Very annoying, when I could be at home making stock for the Leeds Steampunk Market!

I sympathise with the university gripes, having some issues with that myself.

Meanwhile my current GAAAAAARRGGHHHH! is a non functioning left hip coupled with a broken walking stick.

The mustachioed strongmen are back.  It bl**dy well hurts to even SIT now.  On the bright side, my FME/FCE whatever you wanna call it exam is two weeks from yesterday-so soon this whole Worker's Comp nightmare will be behind me, and I'll know STATISTICALLY how ****ed up I officially am.

I think I'm'a head off for the night, folks.  Look for more from me tomorrow, assuming I can drag my arse out of my bedroom after work!

Minor Gahhh...

So, I just bought a small table from the charity shop (think it's a hall table, looks the right size), sort of Victorian style (modern repro) which I got for £15. I have enough furniture, but it *looked* to be about right for a 3ft fishtank I'm currently setting up...

Long story short: Have a fishpond at my mother's house, it's leaking, not worth fixing and currently has only two large goldfish in it now (used to be for my Koi carp, then later for my rather big mirror carp who sadly died a while ago. gold fish were to keep him company). So I'm removing the pond and bringing the fish to my house to live in one of my old tanks. Steampunk style...  Wink

Anyhow, my eyeball measuring device was a little off, turns out the table is a smidgen too short in length. It would have been about a quarter inch overlap on either side (front and back are fine), which isn't brilliant but not TOO much of a problem. However with the slight bevelled edge to the table top, the tank is unsupported for about 1,1/2 inches on either side. That is not good for an all glass tank of the old style I have. Not good as in the eventual sound of breaking glass and an eighth of a Ton of water flowing around my study...  Roll Eyes

So now I either have to work out a way to support the tank on the table, OR work out where to put yet another bloody table in my house...  Roll Eyes

*sigh* Gahhhhhhhhh...

One of my teachers again (I`m pretty sure I`ve ranted about her more often here).

We have this class in which we have to write speeches. 8 of them. We have to record them all on DVD, and hand that in, and our grade will be based on that DVD. Before we record them, we`re allowed to send in our written versions to have them checked by her. Ofcourse, I had them checked.

I then first had to send several e-mails reminding her that I had not gotten some of them back yet and could she kindly send them sometime soon as the deadline for the DVD is, oh, NEXT WEEK.

And just now, I was going through her comments and notes on my speeches, and guess what? She`s been commenting on sentences that SHE GAVE US, proclaiming they`re a bit "weird". And not even weird in context, no, just the sentence itself. She also wanted me to fix the alignment to specific settings in one of the files (which is stupid, because this is a speech and it will get recorded on DVD), and said I needed a welcoming sentence at the beginning of one speech, while, translated, that speech begins with "I would like to begin with welcoming you all".

Basically, if we write our own sentences, they`re wrong because they don`t sound like how she would say them, and then if we use her notes and sentences instead, she either fixes them or goes all "you do have to think of sentences by yourself!". Doesn`t matter what we do, doesn`t matter how perfectly we do everything, she`ll find something that`s not faulty to begin with and just proclaim it to be wrong anyway.

I`m kind of afraid of checking what else she had to say. I also kind of feel like crying right now.

EDIT: nevermind, been crying since I posted this. I`ve so had it with all this constant crap. It`s not just her, it`s other teachers as well. One has promised me to send me back my homework several times now, and still hasn`t done it. Another says "it`s fine" to whatever you hand in, even if it`s only halfway  finished. He also talks behind people`s backs, and now I have difficulty trusting him. (We had to do presentations in his class, and one of my classmates did hers a few weeks back. In that class, he was all "that was great, really well done. Good pronunciation, well researched, well presented. Nicely done". A few weeks later, when she`s not there, he talks about how we should definitely not do what she did, she talked way too fast and her pronunciation was horrible, and all I thought was how horrible he was there and if he`s ever done it about me as well)

MY Gaaaarrghhh of the day is that a friend of mine, whom happens to be Golden Era Enthusiast, basically slapped me for being a Steampunk, claiming that it was stupid because it had no real historic purpose and it held no meaning in the real world. Needless to say, we are slightly less friendly then before.

The man has some major issues about that kind of thing, and since I've known him in High School he's always been a bit... Stiff. He doesn't seem to realize the beauty in Steampunkery is the bits of Victorian and Edwardian culture thrown in with a helping of fantasy, pinched in at just the right amount for each one of us.

Alright, I do have a gah related to the forum.

Is it just me or have things gotten a bit tense lately?  I'm not laughing as much as I used to and after looking at a particular, now closed thread, I am rather frustrated by people's behavior.

One of my teachers again (I`m pretty sure I`ve ranted about her more often here).

I had an art teacher like that when I was back in high school.  By my junior year I had developed enough arrogance with my art that I started not listening to a single thing she'd tell me.  And when she'd ask why I didn't do something her way, I'd give her a long drawn explanation of why my way was better suited to me and how it still worked.  Around the same time I had an English teacher who could not seem to understand that her class was English and not History.  Worse, she had absolutely no comprehension of the history she was trying to teach.  Fed up, one day when we were going over World War I in preparation for Hemingway, I started calling her out.  Thing was, I had always been the quiet kid, so I got away with it largely because she didn't know how to handle the situation as I was way out of character.

The big key in dealing with those sorts is confidence.  Be well read on their subject, enough that if you are caught in a jam, you can stand on nearly equal footing and explain why your way works.  They are human beings, thus they are flawed from the start.  If they are getting paid to do a particular job, then they need to do it right.

A minor gaaaaaagh in the overall scheme of things, but venting is good for the soul.

Ive been doing up a motorcycle for a few years now and its finally out of the house. My gripe is, I paid a fortune for powder coating and 2 months in the open air, its all bubbled up and is peeling off. I went back to the place that did it and found out the guy went bust and there is a new owner who will put it right for extra cost. I am f*&^ng fed up with paying for a top dollar job, only to find out the person cuts costs and does shoddy work  Angry Angry

I finally found a decent proper Victorian-era suit on ebay for a price I could afford, but the trousers are a good 10'' too big in the waist.  I reckon I could fit, a little tightly though, into the jacket- 38'' chest (perfect), 17'' shoulders (struggle over my 19'' ones)... Blast.

You have my sympathies, Sir. I had a similar prodlem with my electric trike, where a guy who had until recently been restoring old motorbikes did the welding to modify the rear forks....but he gave the job undupervised it seems, to a new assistant, and the welding seems strong, but is very ugly. And he charged the sort of price for which I would have expected proper workmanship.

Bad workmanship, that can only be fixed by spending more money. Gah.

That`s it. I`ve had it.

After yesterday`s post, having slept somewhat since, did some other work, lounged about, and decided to try and take a look at my homework again. Turns out, my teacher "corrected" some grammar in one of my speeches. Second year grammar. I`m in my fourth year. SHE DID IT WRONG. No, seriously, I put the word in the CORRECT and polite way, she shortened it to the INCORRECT, slightly rude, dailylife "street" version.

I`m now putting all of these things in a list, and am contemplating sending it around to the other teachers. I`m just not so sure yet that`s the right course of action.

Do you have an academic adviser of any sort? A faculty or staff member who could help sort this out? My only worry is that spreading to other teachers might do more harm than good; finding someone in authority who has an interest in your academic success might be able to intercede on your behalf.

We`re a very small study with about 200 students spread out over 4 years - our teachers are also our advisors. Usually we have to go to the exam committee with things like this, but the same teacher that has promised me back my homework for a while and has as of yet not send me back anything, is in that committee, and I know their reputation and the way they work, it won`t do that much good.

I have pointed out to both teachers that I`m worried about my academic succes, that I am here to learn something, and all I got for it were empty promises.

The problem is really that there`s only this one week left. All deadlines and final exams are this week, and then we`re all off to our internships. But at the rate this is going, I`m wondering if I`ll be able to do quality work at the internship as well.

Wow, that's rough. I wish I knew what to tell you. My only advice would be to document all of this so that when and if you were to share it with someone there would be incontrovertible evidence that your teacher(s) had been making mistakes all along.

Got the check back from the auction...GAH...lost my shirt on a few things, but at least it is something.  My fiance whose resume is worse than mine got a call back on an interview, I am happy for her, but feel really bad that none of mine are panning out.  One would have, but I jumped the gun on the investment banking job and ended up walking into a pitch for a Fortune 500 company run pyramid scheme.

Nearly fell out with my best friend tonight about his computer. It is always breaking down, and he gets it back working after a fashion, and describes what he does in such a strange way.....('So I pressed this button, tap tap (hand gesture) and that, and that, then I did this thing with Microsoft, and downloaded the essentials, and that ( taps on table).....'

And I started at each point asking him what he really meant by the 'and that' or what 'button' did he press, and why he spends so much time 'fixiing' a computer that by by his own admission is a piece of rubbish.....and he says he knows about computers, and I asked him how his binary maths was.....and I thought he was going to hit me.

This is a guy who cannot set his printer to print fast drafts, and will let it grind away in maximum detail mode.....yet says he knows computers. He's a very intelligent guy, been around, done a lot of things, but his way of describing how he 'mends' his computer is so annoying... 'And that, (tap tap) got down to basics, it was making a lot of noise, and that (tap, tap)'.

Arthur for goodness sake! Admit that computers are not your forte, stop making up drivel! Get help from people who do know.

Intolerant arsehats.  Merlin's Beard, they grind my gears.  They shout about how *I* need to accept and respect THEIR view, yet *MY* view is invalid, irrelevant, irrational, and because I HAVE that view, I am insane.

I'm not going to rant on it, because it crosses SEVERAL forum no-nos, but suffice it to say that I am a very accepting and respectful chap, and because of that, would expect the same be extended to me.

I suppose I'm asking too much of the interwebz, aren't I?

I work for a "public sector department" where i get to (mostly) be mean to those in the wrong and helpful to the ignorant.

for the next two days we'll not be doing this, we'll be trying to help people with completely different problems.

For this we've had 1 days training on the topic and the relevant software.

So for the next two days I get to be the backward idiot on the end of the line that doesn't know anything about what Joe Public needs, we'll just be a glorified call waiting system. I'm sure every call will be me going

"Uh... errrm, okay you'll need to speak to the technical team I'll just put you through."

Each call will then need to be logged in 5 different systems to record what we did.

Yes I should be grateful to have a job, yes there are worse jobs but that's not what grates, it's that fact that I'll be participating willingly in aggravating folk who just want some advice.

"Can you help me with this?" "Probably not I'll just put you through" "Can you help me with this?" "Probably not I'll just put you through" "Can you help me with this?"
