What should have been a Gaaaaaarrrrrgghh :-

I was on site at my place of work for over 12 hours to make up time lost on previous days [my own fault]
I only got paid for 11 of those ours
Because of my baby daughter I did all of this on 3.5 hours sleep
Because of my  contract I only got two 15 minute breaks and 30 minutes for lunch with the occasional comfort break.
I can't switch off and pretend like I'm working, the real-time system I use is monitored and dips in productivity are obvious and followed up.

Should've been a day of hell....

But instead

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I hit the best productivity I've done in weeks and maintained it all day.
People 10 years younger than me went home tired at 5:01pm
I still had the presence of mind to make formula bottles and do some light housework when I got home.

Coffee may have helped... slightly

Best friend is in a fairly deep pit of depression right now. I can't help any more than I already am, and watching her as this happens is nearly physically hurting me.

Burgled.
My laptop gone, lost several hours on a script I'm writing which has flattened my momentum totally. Struggling to keep going by doing non-script stuff for the moment, hoping that yhe mojo will return.
My son lost an external drive with A Level work on it.

That's AWFUL! One thing that constantly worries me, burglary, so you have my sympathy and the perpetrators have my anti-sympathy.

I hope your possessions can be recovered by the police and the culprit brought to justice.

I'd like to GAAAAAARGH at the fact that my laptop is apparently as dead as a dodo. I have to use the crappy library computers in town! It alternates between now switching on at all, and switching on, getting as far as a "would you like to perform a system recovery?" screen before the screen scrambles and the whole thing becomes, yet again, non responsive!

gaaahhh at some of my colleagues.

Seriously. This is an internship. We`re here to get work experience, not to earn money. But no, for every hour they have to work outside of normal office hours (which will be a lot, considering this is a touristic event) they want to get paid extra. They want entire weekends off (again, touristic event, fat chance), they only want to do jobs that are "worthy of our study level". Get real guys. Stop whining and accept that you`re working at an event that will be open for 180 consecutive days, and be happy that we`re getting paid AT ALL. Other people get paid nothing.

They complain we get treated as children and that we don`t get taken seriously, but I am in all honesty not at all surprised at this, with the way they behave. They do absolutely NO work, don`t want to work extra, don`t want to work on weekends, act difficult about everything that gets asked of us, and then also expect us to be respected and taken seriously.

Smaggers, my sympathy on your burglary.....

Had a disturbed night couple nights ago around 3AM some considerade soul was playing around with a very large hammer- the sound was that of a wall being attacked, first thought had been scrap thieves, but the sound was a wall in distress...the sound was close, but when I went out could not see anything....the sound came and went for maybe quarter of an hour.

One can speculate....a drunk that had stolen a hammer perchance?

A friend of mine had that done last year. While I can't say I would generally recommend the operation to everyone, he came through it fine and is quite happy he had it done. I wish you the best of luck with your surgery, and I'll be praying for you and your doctor.

How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you."

It's my birthday, I should be having fun and stuff, but all I can do is sit here and miss Gran. This is my second birthday without her, and she is being well and truly missed. I should have a grip on this by now, but I think that because this is my first proper grown up birthday instead of just another teenage one, I miss her because she isn't here to see how well I've turned out. I know she'd be crazy-proud of me for everything I've done since she died, but that doesn't give me too much comfort. Sad

This seems quite petty compared to many of the recent posts - you have my sympathies and best wishes!!

I do feel the need to vent...
One of my co-workers is an absolute twat. She is loud, obnoxious, and for lack of a better term, a bully. She steam rolls people whom she knows has no desire for confrontation (me) and completely sabotages other co-workers projects in an effort to compensate for her short comings and lack of self-confidence. She can be downright mean and hurtful, and while I used to think she didn't know any better, I'm beginning to wonder if it's deliberate. She has a tendency to manipulate people in to agreeing with her own line of thinking (part of the steamrolling), and causes drama even when she's NOT in the office. I am seriously fed up with her attitude and general disregard for professionalism and common decency.  Angry

But...as I am the one who lacks backbone and loathes conflict, I do not know if I have the cojones to stand up to her and tell her what I really think (in a most tactful and professional way, mind you. I am a lady, after all!). Le sigh.

Thank you...I feel a little better now...LOL

I was supposed to be getting paid today.  Instead I'm getting paid tomorrow.  Once upon a time this wouldn't be a problem...if the person in question hadn't owed me the amount x 20 since February and hadn't put me in a series of very tough spots since that time.

Should also add that this person is my landlord who just two days ago gave me an eviction notice effective the 30th of May.  A few lessons to be learned:  buy your own dwelling and never trust family.

A couple of weeks ago, I took my Aztek to the shop and told the mechanic to check out the AC and see what was wrong, then call me if it was going to be an expensive repair.  Two days later, no call, and the car shows up at my parents' house rather than mine.  AC appears to be working.  I drive it for about 4 days and the AC quits again.  I take it back to the shop and give them the same instructions.  Call me and let me know what it's going to cost.  Even wrote my name, phone number and address on a piece of paper and handed it to the mechanic when I dropped it off.  Same thing happens.  Two days later, the car shows up at my parents' house, no explanation, and the paper with MY phone number and address is laying on the dash.  AC works fine.  Today a bill shows up at my parents' house for $325.  Apparently $84 of that was just filling it up with freon on the first visit.

I'm rather unhappy.  If I'd known it was going to cost this much I'd probably either have done the work myself or just have traded the stupid car off.

To add insult to injury her sister is my mother who just past away over the summer.

I guess it's a lesson to me, my mom always told me to get out of dodge when I had the chance.

Today's GAH:

The hi-jacking of my local rock club by chavs; I do not expect to be harassed for my choice of clothing (top hat strikes again), groped etc (by the 'goff girlz r easy' crowd) in this location. The usual attendees tend to have more decorum. One guy even tried to grab my bum etc (without so much as saying hello) and I see this as assault so instinctively I kicked him away (just in the shin) something I have never had to do in a rock venue before. There was drinks and punches flying, a downturn in the quality of music and an unpleasant atmosphere in general.

Also the inability of my friend to know her limits/hold her alcohol. When will she learn? I had to attempt to keep her safe from the advances of half the bar (she had a boyfriend waiting at home), get her food, water, hold the sick bag in the taxi etc. I had 4 drinks and a pint of water. I think she'd had half a bottle of vodka before she even got to the club...

I think I might be too old for this clubbing malarkey... which is a sad thing to say when I turn 22 next week! I just don't see the point of drinking until you can't stand and have lost all self respect. I love to dance but I'm happy to do it even when sober, so I may have to just stay in and twirl around the living room in future!
