I organised (fantasy and Sci-fi) LRP clubs and events for 18 years before I took a 10 year 'Time Out' but have been coaxed out of retirement to run another event. I know that this is not Steampunk but someone may be interested in this.

Starlore Adventures originally grew out of the Dungeonlore / Nottingham Guild of Live Role-players club that I formed 28 years ago and utilises the Worlds of Wonder Lazer Tag system for combat resolution.

The event In September 2012 will be a role-playing game with plenty of action rather than a military simulation (a-la paintball or air-soft) and will employ a non-linear system where the action continues to unfold and the player team must make a continuous assessment of their predicament situation.

PCs, radios, detectors and other gadgets will be employed and the main building will be divided up (using a steel framework) into a Med bay, Science lab, Tech lab, Security office as well as a small briefing room.

The event will be fully catered with the option for players to sleep in the main building or camp (campervans do attract an extra charge from the site however). The site is fairly sheltered and is a mix of ancient woodland and open field. The format is fairly relaxed with a late evening time out for socialising and the odd drop of beer around the camp fire circle. I have a stock of lensed up guns and 360º sensor rigs for new players so equipment will not be an issue.

I have hired all of the buildings on the site and have 35 player places and 15 Crew positions available but can easily accommodate more.

'Better the Devil you know' is set in the far future (Traveller, Outland, Firefly style setting) ten years after the human empire had descended into a five year civil war. With 20 million still homeless it is the story of a survey mission organised by Fortress Corporation.

Political and corporate intrigue has meant that the details of the mission have been a closely guarded secret to all but a few. Intense media attention has meant that every aspect of the mission has been under scrutiny and everyone is after one of the coveted seats on the Horizon, the starship that will carry the team to Taranis an Earth type world previously unknown.

This is a scientific mission and to ensure the cooperation of both the government and the Emperor it has been ‘demilitarised’ with corporate troops banned. Security will be provided by the ships security detail and security contractors. The three Mission Commanders will each head up one of the departments Security, Operations and Science each with its own aims and objectives but all must work together.

The latest is Data Pack 3 Missions & Motivations (download link below) and provides details for each of the three department teams.

This supplement also gives details of the 'mission uniform' which, whilst not mandatory is there for guidance.

Also included is the first view of the game patches that each player will be given. Featured in this supplement are the blank Department insignias.

That's a fair point well made.

My event may not be the cup of tea for many on Brass Goggles but one has to try.

After being out of circulation for over ten years I was only able to plan and book 18 months ahead and did ask for advice on which dates I should avoid from those on the Firefight forum (including from some that are probably attending Asylum).

I also had to move the date by 5 months to avoid my wedding that we can no longer afford and on top it all off the date now clashes with another type of event where I would normally be a trader, which means I'm going to lose out on a considerable amount of money there as well.

Telle est la vie. Telle est guerre.

Looking at the amount of spare gear that we have amassed, equipment hire fees can be waive. So if you need equipment for the game, please ignore the ‘Hire fee’ quoted in the booklet.
