Jolly good, and I have just ascertained that I can catch a train from my local station to Alton, takes about 45 minutes, and costs a tenner. A no driving day! Unless its warm and sunny, then I can take out the MG. Do you have a Midget? No but I have a double, apparently...

Okey dokey, shall we say saturday the 24th of march, for the Spring Steam? Meet at Alton at 11.00?
Certainly interested, but will depend on the weather. The steam scooter is not really up to rain unfortunately! Come to think of it, neither am I.

If its in March, I'll have to give it a miss since I will be back up in Scotland by then.
Alton Station car park is oddly laid out and often busy, I would advise getting there early.

If travelling to Alton by train it may well be possible to get a combined ticket for the Watercress Line with your SWT ticket that reduces the total cost of the day. I will look out for this years leaflet to see what deals are in place for the day and let you know.

Excellent idea! And a totally unrelated question: how tall might someone be, to still qualify as a midget? Just asking... for scientific reasons.

I would think that less than 4 foot would probably qualify as a midget

About time I bumped this, with a bit more information: The Saturday is part of the Watercress Line's Great Spring Steam Gala, I've asked people to get there own tickets (either from the website or on the day) mainly because anything more is beyond my powers of organisation. It'll probably be rather busy, I'm not sure if there is extra parking laid on, might actually be easier to get to by train, on the Waterloo line...

Ticket purchased, picnic hamper ditto, figured out how to get there, now the really difficult decisions remain: I need to decide what to wear and what to prepare for the picnic!

I think I might go for the car park at Ropley if they ever reply to my email asking them if its open that weekend! Just emailed them a second time. Otherwise I think we'll be hunting for parking in Alton. I'm just worried that Alton station car park will be really busy.

Their website says that if coming by car we recommend you start your journey at Alresford or Alton stations. Which of these will will be meeting at?

My Dad (my parents live in Alton) would recommend Victoria Road Car Park (GU34 2DB) as a option to those wishing to park in Alton.

Is the plan to arrive at Alton..travel on a train the Alresford and then back to Alton for a picnic? I only ask as we'd like to know whether we need to lug our picnic stuff with us or just collect it from the car on our return to Alton...if you see what I mean?

I was wondering about that too, as the answer to that question will decide if I bring a tiny snack or something more substantial.

Is anyone else planning to start from Alresford? I think I will have to start there because access to the Watercress line at Alton looks awkward for those of us with Dalek-like charecteristics (early Daleks, that is, not the later ones that float up stairs).

Alton's access is via the footbridge or a ramp blocking mainline trains.

Anyone with more local knowledge know of anywhere suitable for a picnic for a group of Steampunks to picnic at any of the sations along the line?
Probably should set a time and place for the eating and drinking...
