One of my friends in the navy said the first words some of his friends overseas taught him were curse words and and i find that to be very true all over.  When I was in high school I researched cursed in as many languages as I could find I only remember a few tho.

I curse in more than one language. Some of them aren't even real languages. And I've read enough BattleTech to use Clan slang occasionally when I curse as well.

It's like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe, you say, if the universe is indeed infinite, then how - what does that mean? How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you."

I made it a habit much too quickly, to curse in a foreign language. English in my case. Which is of course understood by everyone around me. Ahem.

Just wanted to say hi, I'm still alive, still read here if I find the time, but sadly no time to write.
We (Private Weasel and I) plan to go back to writing as soon as we both find the time, but for the moment we're both quite busy. I just found a new job and will move soon. Private Weasel is organising his Steampunk LRP Victoriana (where I'll be playing Iska von Rabenstein in the flesh and not just on paper... curious if Lord Alexander Hawthorne will make an appearance! *g*).

Not that anyone gets any wrong ideas... life doesn't imitate art in all details in our case, but since Private Weasel and I started writing stories here in this thread, we've become very good friends and I thought I'd share that with you.  Smiley

Hope you don't mind me moving the group along for just a bit. I left wherever we're going up to you guys.

I think Mina and Thomas would be able to understand wolfish, since it's basically an animal language. Whether Will can understand either of them or thier languages (?) I'll leave up to thier creators. Having some form of common communication between them might be useful, since werewolves can't speak human languges when in fully wolf form, and can't speak very clearly in (and without lots of practice) in humanoid-wolf form.

Seems OK to me. My only caveat in that regard is to keep from transplanting huge chunks of an already -existing fictitious reality (such as importing Kohta Hirano's Hellsing canon or that of Miss Bishop's Mercy S. Thompson novels) into the storyline.

The actual universe of the game is a separate and slightly-different aspect of the Steam London universe, Mainly because of its familiarity to the original bunch of players, but also because it did/does a great job of referring to/lampooning/giving nods to the various constants and popular stories of the SF genre in general, rather than importing whole sections of canons or storylines, or moving the whole party farther along physically unless one is in fact in charge of teh game, for example as Corsair is in control of this one.

I just step into that aspect of control when the story needs a nudge or I am asked to do so by the current controller (or when I'm the current controller, of course). So far, I've (hopefully) avoided getting all high and mighty and arrogant about it (knock on wood or the closest applicable substitute).

Ok, I'm off of my long-winded soapbox now ( Cheesy).

Thomas knows it is wolf speak but I don't know if he will understand the dialect.  He has been either dead or in Starling's apartment so he is not very worldly.

Mina probably will, since she's in actuality a "cell part," so to speak, of Wilhelmina's travelling bat swarm aspect and since her sire (Vlad Drakuul) also often took the form of a wolfhound; the animalian dialects would, I would think, have many similarities, borrow words, and common concepts, jusyt as human languages do (but only if you agree, Alex). Probably varying degrees of proficiency for Marmont and the other Paladins, as well as the Nadir Court et al. Rourke probably a little bit for past professional purposes.

Makes sense to me.

As far as canon, I'm trying to come up with my own 'rules' for werewolves for this story. I haven't read a lot of the modern werewolf fiction though, so if I'm using something that seems to be directly from another storyline/universe it's probably by accident.

I'll make some minor edits, so the other werewolf would have told Will that Talbot is coming to Kalmar, rather than having arrived there. Hopefully the post isn't too out of place.

Similarly to Alex, I'm attempting to make a Norse Pantheon "semi-canon" without using any of the established pop fiction or anime canon forms already in existence, mainly just for the support of the character named "Ing." Yes, he's supposed to be a "modern," steampunk version of the old Norse hero/god, who just happens to work for the Home office of Her Majesty's Government (thats why he travels via rainbows, for example. I.e., the Rainbow Bridge [Bifrost], carried a bit farther than just an architectural metaphor).

Freya is just there to be the poodle's escort and to give Ing a reason to encounter the other members of Rourke's team (although I must admit this is mainly thought of on the fly as things have developed tyhis evening). The poodle supposedly belongs to one of the Norns, Verdandia, to be exact. I can't think of any good reason to bring the rest of Valhalla into this, so I don't think I will, unlessw teh rest of you want me to.

Thomas is in so much trouble but given the fact he is basically like a four year old on sugar he may not be processing it well.

Mina is in similar straits; similarly to Thomas, she's just a little too inebriated on blood and alcohol to be too awfully concerned about consequences. I wonder how Rourke should discipline her...(?)

I was under that impression as well, but in fact he did write that Madd stopped off for horsefeed. Should I adjust Rourke's return to the airship?...

Also, Dr., it appears from your wording that you or Madd are convinced that the Mina of the airship crew is a humanoid character. Not that it's really that big of a deal (beyond a coherent storyline), but she is in fact a vampire bat.

Also, for future reference, Mina can only be conversed with by
1. a psionic link (pretty much a closed circuit "vampire channel"; not sure if it would work for Thomas or not), or
2. 'Beast Speak' (term and quotes mine), such as the one introduced by Alexis' character, Will. Madd being so intimately associated with what I tend to call "fell beasts" (pardon the Tolkienism), that should not be a problem.
3. By speaking to her in English (or, possibly Romanian); she does understand human speech, being basically a cell of a larger 'familiar entity' form of Wilhelmina Harker, but she cannot speak it. yet... interpreting her replies involves mentally translating her Beast-Speak answer. That also would probably not be a problem for Madd.

Sounds OK to me. just don't kill Will (Kill Bill? -- sorry, the doctor changed my meds again... Wink)

I'll Pm Alex and sort out a rapport with him, Talbot doesn't hate werewolves he'd just adept at killing them, he'll more than likely be unnerved by having one so close and a little untrusting of him like Joe is around Talbot

It may be useful to have a character bio thread. I think I've got the hang of everyone but it took me a lot of reading through the OOC and various story threads to get there and could be pretty intimidating for someone looking to join the game.

There's a rather truncated section in the Portrayal RPs section of teh Brass Goggles Wiki about the Short RP's and this RP in particular; I need to go back in and work on it, but what with other things in the RL world, I haven't had time. Maybe sometime soon...

I appreciate that I'm holding everyone up at this point (and I profousely apologise for that) and I'll try to get something posted soon... although there's a risk it won't be till some point during the weekend.

I'll be working on the wiki, among other things, during lulls in the writing. It seems the Short RPs section of the wiki is woefully lacking in useful info.
